Cyrus the Great - Karl L. King
Karl King's "Cyrus The Great" March had been a band favorite for nearly a century, and this Karl L. King Centennial Edition by Andrew Glover gives new life to this classic march! Proof that not all marches sound alike, "Cyrus The Great" will delight and impress your audiences from start to finish.

A Tom Sawyer Portrait - Jarvis
Mark Twain's colorful characters come to musical life in "A Tom Sawyer Portrait!" The journey begins in St. Petersburg, Missouri, with a jaunty musical portrayal of Tom and Huck and a ragtime sequence which depicts the sleepy river town. An Americana-style ballad follows that is tender, lyrical and poignant. This segues into a "no holds barred" blues section representing the mighty Mississippi. The Portrait concludes with our heroes' return, featuring a recap of the opening theme augmented in the brass and accompanied by woodwind runs and exciting percussion. This is a great selection for the concert band that demands solid musicianship but will reward students for their efforts!

Invictus - King
A ponderous and dramatic march from the "King" of all march composers! Composed for King's friend Merle Evans, bandmaster for the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus, "Invictus" (which means "unconquerable") lives up to its title! After a ponderous minor-key first section featuring low brass and woodwinds, the second features an exciting "circusy" sound. The trio is followed by a return to the minor key, and ends with a rock-solid final section. An excellent choice for more advanced high school, college, and adult bands, "Invictus" will impress audiences and engage performers from top to bottom!

Beyond the Stars - Ed Huckeby
With first and second year players in mind, Ed Huckeby has developed a modal melodic and harmonic structure using a familiar key as the tonal center, making the piece sound much more difficult than it really is. The contrasting slow section allows the ensemble to showcase its developing legato style. A single bass line also allows great flexibility for ensembles with limited low brass and low woodwind sections. Your students will love "Beyond The Stars" and your audiences will be amazed at how the band is playing "such difficult music." Highly recommended for young players and ensembles with limited instrumentation.
