Toccata "Atalanta" (Windependence Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bonelli, Aurelio - Hanson, Shelley

Woodwind and percussion players usually are unfamiliar with the antiphonal brass choir tradition. I made this modern, more easily readable version of Bonelli's classic 1600 Toccata for flexible wind ensemble with optional percussion, so that as few as 8 players up to full symphonic band could play in this style. I've used it as a dramatic concert opener, with the second, smaller group positioned behind the audience. ~ Shelley Hanson

Walking to the Sky (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Buckley, Robert

Walking to the Sky takes an epic, cinematic approach to celebrate humankind's collective quest for wisdom and transcendence. It was inspired by a 100-foot Jonathan Borofsky sculpture, which creates the illusion of a group of people walking skyward into infinity. With pulsing percussion, heroic brass, haunting melodies, sudden shifts in dynamics and dramatic key changes, everyone in the ensemble gets a chance to star in this exciting mini-movie score. To add even more grandeur, there is an optional choir part (that could be played on a synthesizer).Duration: 3:45

The Last Centaur (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Galante, Rossano

Composed in the style of a grand and descriptive film score, The Last Centaur is a musical depiction of a centaur who is separated from his family by war, the ensuing adventures, and ultimate reunion with his family and friends. The music begins with a stately, lyrical theme in the horns followed by solo oboe. This main theme is then woven throughout the work as it develops and grows with intensity. Sweeping woodwind lines and majestic brass fanfares capture the excitement of the drama and ultimate joyous resolution. Powerful and evocative writing! Call of the Valley (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jacob

The inspiration for this three-part work goes back to the International European Youth Wind Music Festival, of which the patron has been Jacob de Haan several times. It begins in a festive march tempo, then sacred music, instrumental groups playing off stage and a little march for brass and flutes. The third movement is a parade in which the various sections of the ensemble head towards the stage from different directions. Even without the effective choreography of the musicians, Call of the Valley is an impressive concert band composition.Duration: 5:15
