Echoes from Russia
To create the musical material of this medley, the arranger drew upon the rich arsenal of Russian folk songs and dances. Familiar traditional tunes have been combined with less well-known, but certainly no less interesting manifestations of folk music. In this attractive arrangement the following melodies are featured: The Volga Boatmen Song, The Jolly Chap, The Red Sarafan, The Forest Glade, The Nightingale and the Gopak.

Takayama Impressions - Jan Van der Roost
This piece was written to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Takayama Wind Orchestra, who also commissioned it. The historic city of Takayama draws numerous visitors from home and abroad, not just to see its well-preserved old houses and buildings but also because every year several historic processions take place, with beautiful floats. When these ride through the city, age-old melodies are heard played on wooden flutes, accompanied by muted drums. This image is evoked at the beginning of the work, followed by an archaic sounding melody in a typically Japanese pentatonic sequence, that develops throughout. In this challenging piece Eastern and Western influences alternate, creating a sensational and overwhelming musical effect!

I Colori della Gioia - Jan Van der Roost
This work for soprano and concert band was originally written for a special occasion: the wedding of one of the composer's children. It therefore matches another piece written for a similar occasion "I Shall Love But Thee". The lyrics are from the book Respiro Neve by the internationally renowned art photographer Luca Artioli who possesses poetic talent as well. The first movement is stately and serene as where the contrasting allegro is much more dynamic and cheerful, requiring the solid high register of the singer. The conclusion is festive and radiant, partly thanks to the contribution of a piccolo trumpet! This work is a wonderful addition to the bandrepertoire wanting to perform with an excellent vocal soloist!

Tarjan - Thierry Deleruyelle
Tarjan, Hungarian Pictures is a work in three movements commissioned by the town of Vesoul and its concert band. This work pays tribute to Jean-Marie Goux, the band's former musical director, who had forged strong links with Hungary: whether in the village of Tarjn or Budapest itself, he had shared his zest for life with the Hungarian people. This colourful work consists of three movements: 'The 7th Tribe', 'Eternal Fidelty' and 'Conquest of the Homeland'. It offers not only strong musical content, but also historical insight about a beautiful region with a great tradition.

Pata Pata
'Pata Pata' might be the song with the fewest words in the history of pop music, but it is nevertheless extremely popular and known to every generation. The perky character of the song, along with this careful arrangement for small and beginner bands, make 'Pata Pata' a nice piece of music to add to any concert program.

The Power of Love
Frankie Goes to Hollywood were a controversial 1980s pop phenomenon. The Power of Love is an incredible, breathtaking ballad, untypical of the band's usual style, but a huge hit nonetheless.

What a Difference a Day Made - Stanley Adams
The Mexican songwriter Maria Grever, wrote the melody in 1934 ("Cuando vuelva a tu lado") and it became a big hit for jazz-singer Diana Washington. Since that, it has been recognized as a jazz-standard and also featured in several movies. This arrangement was originally written for young, Norwegian singer Angelina Jordan. In this version, the level of difficulty and instrumentation are customized to fit our Young Band-series. Included in the set is parts for both string bass and vocals, but they are not compulsory to perform the piece. In this style, the accompaniment will have a slight swinging feel, while some of the contrasting elements has to be performed without swing(Even).

Hoppesltt - Øystein Olsen Vadsten
This is an original piece of music composed by ystein Olsen Vadsten, inspired by old Norwegian folk dances. "Jumpety Jump" actually started out as a "reinlender" (Norwegian Folk Dance) which origins from Rhinland. The reinlender is well disguised in this arrangement by adding the shuffle- and swing style to it. The piece is first of all meant as a "happy go lucky" tune, but is full of rhythmical and technical challenges. Its put up as a jazz-tune, first presenting the melody, then "improvisasations" by the different instrument groups, before going back to the first theme. The title "Jumpety Jump" refers to the kind of jumping feeling the shuffle groove gives.
