It is used by many folk music groups and many is familiar with the choir Grex Vocalis version recorded on the album Norwegian Moods released in 1990.This arrangement waswritten in 1994 to His Majesty The Kings Guards band in Norway and was performed in concerts and recorded with Susanne Nst as soloist.

In 1725 J.S. Bach composed the cantata BWV79 Gott, der Herr, is Sonn' un Schild for the celebration of the Reformation. Originally written for three vocal soloists, choir, and orchestra, Cantata No. 79 is partially based on thewell-known hymn Now Thank We All Our God, the melody of which is attributed to Martin Rinckart. This arrangement for concert band by Robert van Beringen combines part of the first movement (Coro) with an ensemble from the thirdmovement (Choral).

Dona Nobis Pacem is a three-part round by an unknown composer. It can be performed for many occasions, both in and outside church, often being used at Christmas. By the time of the holy crusades, this melody was incorporated into the Mass Ordinary (the manual of the holy mass). Dona Nobis Pacem is a free fantasia on this round, which itself naturally forms a part of the piece. If desired you can add vocals (solo or choir) to the band to enhance the spiritual feel of this fantastic work.

Canon for Christmas - Larry Clark
Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D has long been one of the most popular classical pieces, and has already been connected to Christmas through various setting of the piece. In this arrangment, the Canon is combined with popular Christmas carols as part of the fabric of the piece. Carols like Hark, the Herald Angels Sing and The First Noel fit nicely over the harmonic progression of Pachelbel's famous canon. The German composer Joseph Ignaz Schnabel (1767-1831) was a descendant of a musical family. During his lifetime he occupied several musical posts including Violinist, Organist, Concertmaster, Conductor, Music Teacher and managing director of the Royal Institute for Church Music. Schnabel composed masses, hymns, vespers, military music and a clarinet concerto. His choir work Transeamus usque Bethlehem is still widely performed and Wil van der Beek has produced this excellent arrangement for concert band which does justice to the original.
