Salutation - Eriks Ešenvalds / arr. Phillip Littlemore

was composed for a cappella choir to a poem by Bengali poet and musician Rabindranath Tagore (1861--1941). The music takes up the spiritual message of the poem, that we live our lives in one salutation to God ending back in an eternal home. Phillip Littlemore's brilliant arrangement for concert band adds a work of great contemplative beauty to the repertoire. (3:15) Original item: EP68712-CMPST

Feel the Fury - David Marlatt

This energetic piece is a simulation of a horse race. All the emotions and thrill of a race can be felt in this work. This piece for very young band and optional choir was commissioned by Northern Dancer P.S., which was named after the famous Canadian racehorse. The snare and toms help to keep the horse moving forward while the winds perform the bold and stately theme. There is a moment of tension and suspense as the horse and rider can see they are not in the lead. But they triumph and the race is won!

Gentle Clouds Roll By - Donald Coakley

This lovely Chippewa lullaby was first collected on the western shores of the Great Lakes at the beginning of the twentieth century. The original "Way Way" text was obviously intended to gently lull a baby to sleep. Performing this work presents two opportunities. First, it presents the opportunity to perform with the school choir (or members of the band to sing the choral parts). Second, it also presents the option to work with the history department in the school when they are teaching about native peoples. Cross curriculum work is always popular and is of great benefit to students.

Hallelujah (from ) - George Frederic Handel / arr. David Marlatt

Handel's most frequently performed and most famous oratorio is probably best known for the famous "Hallelujah." The "Hallelujah" is the grand chorus that caused the King to rise from his seat and, as all good subjects, the entire audience rose with him. This tradition holds true even today, reminding us of the great beginnings of this powerful music. This arrangement, for band and optional choir, has been lowered a tone from the original into C concert. (4:30)
