Three Movements:RondoValseTristeMarchThis work was commissioned as a celebration of the life and work of Murray Slater, the inspirational musical director of Derbyshire City & County Youth Wind Band, who sadly died in 2000. Murray was greatly loved and respected in the wind and brass band world, was a fine trumpeter and teacher, and was universally known as "Man of Music".Celebration attempts to capture facets of Murray's personality. The Rondo's theme has a witty rhythmic twist to it, the Valse Triste features a solo trumpet, and the concluding March contrasts a Prokofievian theme with a slower "big tune" that attempts to match the stature of the man.The first performance took place on 12th July 2002 in Chesterfield with the Derbyshire City & County Youth Wind Bands, conducted by the composer.Duration 15 minutes

Creamy and Crispy Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
This composition of Marc Cunningham has four parts, and takes place on a sunny day in a picturesque town. 1. Promenade Many people walk through the city. The band passes through the streets. People are strolling along the avenues and amorous couples are sitting on a park bench. 2. Lovey Dovey One of these couples is knee-deep in love. 3. Crispy and Creamy Here the contrasts between a crisp staccato section in two-four time signature and a smooth legato section in three-four time signature are depicted. Is Crispy the boy and Creamy the girl? 4. Farewell In the last particle the couple says goodbye. We still think back to the walk through the city. It sounds a little less happy now. Not everyone is good at saying goodbye, sometimes a tear flows. 07:45

This work falls into three movements, all concerned with the subject of the Italian capital city of Rome, rather like previous tributes to other European citites in Paris Sketches, Venetian Spells and The Cries of London. The emphasis is on atmosphere and drama, be they respectful or joyful! It is acknowledged that Ottorino Respighi has influenced this work though his own eternal Rome tributes are not challenged here, rather saluted and celebrated.The three movements are: 1. Collosea di Romaan evergrowing march mood, builds in intensity and density as we approach the mighty Colosseum, the amphitehatre of Classical Rome, where deadly spectacles were once played out. We should not forget that countless thousands died here whilst even more laughed in the name of entertainment: their memory is reflected in the coda. In its unique way this icon of Rome is one of the most tragic historical places.2. Capella Sistinathe Sistine Chapel of the Vatican City is observed in a series of chorales and interludes. The visitor can look 360o around and be presented with a series of Biblical representations and commentaries. The music attempts to reflect these contrasting panels whilst ultimately bowing to the glory of this magnificent artistic creation. The coda is enigmatic, inconclusive - a single viewing cannot reveal all the mysteries and beauties within. 3. Fonatani di Trevitime for laughter and fun! The Trevi Fountain is one of Rome's finest and visually overboard locations! This is indicated as a Burletta: 'a la dolce vita' which means 'the sweet life'. This burletta (meaning 'little joke') makes use of tarantella and saltarello rhythms and features a pair of tambourines which are associated with these forms. Solemnitas (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Cesarini, Franco
Each year on the last Monday in June, the German city of Burgdorf celebrates the holiday of youth, the so called 'Solennitat'. It is the most important event occurring in the city and consists of three processions walking through the centre of town to celebrate, at the city's expense, the good results achieved in school. This new work by Franco Cesarini takes it's inspiration from this event and leads us through contrasting variations of a Swiss folk tune.Duration: 12:15
