Fair Field Festival opens with a brass fanfare under florid woodwind figuration. A noble chorale leads to a lively allegro vivo, which centres around a majestic horn and euphonium melody under chattering woodwinds. A second theme is first stated by trumpets and this leads to a central legato theme on horns and saxes, repeated by the trumpets. A brief allusion to the opening section leads to a full recapitulation and an energetic coda. A work filled with vitality!

"Kanskje kommer Kongen" ("Perhaps the King is Coming") is yet another example of Knutsen and Ludvigsen's creativity and imagination.The arrangement begins with a short fanfare in the introduction. From letter B, the melody is carried by horn and trombone with a majestic character.Ensure good precision in the accompaniment. From letter C, the style is Latin-inspired, resembling Samba. Alternative percussion solutions are possible here.From letter D, there is a pizzicato effect in 8th-notes, with sonorous melodic lines. The song became a global resistance song against oppressive powers. In 2018, the song became known again through the Spanish Netflix series La Casa de Papel, in which the song was used multiple times. Jan van Kraeydonck wrote a skillful arrangement for concert band, fanfare and brass band.

Mercury Rising was commissioned by sinfonisches blasorchester wehdel and its conductor Thomas Ratzek, to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2018. They premiered this piece in their half-century concert on 2nd November 2018 in the Bremerhaven Stadttheater in Germany. Designed as a virtuosic and lively opener, Mercury Rising opens with nervous energy and driving, syncopated rhythms in a blaze of colour. The horns and saxophones then introduce a broad melody, which the trumpets subsequently take up after a change of tonality. A quieter moment introduces a distant fanfare on muted horns over bubbling semiquavers in the low clarinets. This is interrupted by a passionate tenor melody but soon returns on the full brass section, accompanied by echoes of the opening woodwind figuration, and is extended to bring the piece to a triumphant close.

Fields of Deliberation was written by composer Kevin Houben for the 'Limburgs Fanfare Orkest'. The occasion was the concert cycle that appropriately commemorated the end of the Second World War (in 2020, 75 years ago).From the very first beginning till the end, speed, energy and 'drive' characterize this powerful composition. A magnificent lyrical melody is the common thread throughout the piece, without the rapid movement losing pace or intensity. Majestic, grand moments and energetic passages alternate culminating in an impressive highlight.This dynamic concert piece with a cinematic character is a challenge for all the different groups of instruments of the orchestra and is an added value for any concert program.

Carpe Diem was written for the Argyle Secondary School in Vancouver and premiered at the final senior band concert of 2016, with the composer conducting his peers. The work is intended to have fun parts for all of the band to play. From loud, brassy trombone parts to a triumphant fanfare of trumpets; from wind runs to percussion swells, the piece is very satisfying to perform. With the triumphant nature of the piece, the school's motto, Carpe Diem, was chosen as its title.

Kiskiminetas is a Native American word that means to make daylight and was likely a command given to break camp and continue the journey. Paul Murtha's escriptive work for young players opens with a noble fanfare suggesting the break of day. A lyric section follows depicting scenic vistas along the path, and finally an exuberant adventure theme celebrates the conclusion of the journey. Nicely paced with plenty of variety.
