In this piece the brass section takes a leading role with introducing the themes while the woodwinds have the role of enhancing and adding to them with a subtle intervention. The initial fanfare foretells the birth of a new life whereas the choral is a hymn to life. Despite being an overture, where the rhythm is quite precise and vibrant, there is also room for more melodic and intimate moments.
