IronHeart (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Standridge, Randall D.

This work for concert band is inspired by the inner strength that all artists must call on to devote themselves to their craft. The work uses the sounds of a beating heart combined with metallic accents in the mallet percussion, brake drum, and China crash to create a uniquely industrial sound. The melody races through life's obstacles (represented in an altered scale) before climaxing in a beautiful, triumphant fanfare.Duration: 2:45

Bridge of the Gods (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Curnow, James

Commissioned by the Oregon Symphonic Band in Portland, Bridge of the Gods is a dramatic three-movement symphonic poem presenting the colourful legend told by the Native American Klickitatst about the origins of the volcanic mountains of the Cascade range and legendary bridge. The first movement (Saghalie) pays tribute to the powerful chief of all gods and is based on a majestic fanfare theme. The second movement captures the beauty of the maiden Loowit, with haunting flute and English horn solos accompanied by soft chanting voices. The final movement, Tanmahawis, utilises stark clusters, jagged melodic fragments, and rhythmic percussive energy as it depicts the destruction of the mighty bridge.Duration: 10:00

Der Aufstand (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Higgins, Gavin

Der Aufstand (German for 'riot') is not a descriptive work, nor is it solely based on the riots of 2011. It does, however, draw on the idea of opposing forces and escalating anger. The work falls into two contrasting sections that are linked by a series of repeated, 'screaming' chords. A slow build drives the first section from a single pitch to a blazing orchestral tutti. The second section is a fast and wild series of fanfares and driving rhythms that ultimately cannot be sustained. In many ways this mirrors the first. Both sections open on single tones (Bb and E) and grow to a climax of brass and hammered chords. The first performance took place on the last day of the 2012 Olympic Games. Der Aufstand is a noisy antithesis to the celebratory fanfare. Duration: 10.00
