The Lochnagar Suite (Score & Parts) - Nigel Hess
The Old Man of Lochnager is a three-movement suite for wind band based on the composer's ballet score of the same name. The Dance of the Eagle describes the majestic and dynamic Lord of the Air, who guides the Old Man on his adventures; Dark Lochnagar is a wistful arrangement of a 19th-century Scottish ballad to accompany the Old Man finding his true love; and Scottish Dances depicts a joyous Highlands dance festival during which the Old Man rediscovers his lost youth. Wind Band Grade 5: Advanced Duration: 13 minutes.

A Christmas Overture - Nigel Hess
This vivacious and colourful Christmas Overture, originally commissioned as an orchestral work by John Rutter for his 2007 Christmas Festival, proved an instant success with audience and orchestra alike. Traditional carols, skilfully juxtaposed and interwoven, provide the thematic material. They are, in order of appearance, Ding Dong! Merrily On High; Deck The Halls, Il Est N Le Divin Enfant, Infant Holy, Infant Lowly, Personent Hodie, We Wish You A Merry Christmas and Angels, From The Realms Of Glory, which bring the overture to a majestic close. Fragments of other carols appear along the way to enrich the tecture of what is surely one of the most attractive pieces written for festive season.

The Pre-Goodman Rag - Malcolm Arnold
Malcolm Arnold's Clarinet Concerto No. 2, Op. 115, was dedicated to Benny Goodman, and first performed by him as part of the Red Rocks Music Festival with the Denver Symphony Orchestra conducted by Brian Priestman on 17 August 1974. The third movement, known affectionately as 'The Pre-Goodman Rag', is an outrageous ragtime parody with a hauntingly wistful middle section. The work has now been made more widely available in this transcription for wind band.

The New Corn Palace is a famous attraction in Mitchell, SD. Originally built to house the annual community harvest festival, the new ornate building opened in 1921 and became a premier venue for area symphonies and concert bands. Fort Dodge (IA) Band rang in the inaugural celebration, under the direction of Karl King, who composed this work for the occasion.In keeping with King's circus march tradition, a bold D minor introduction and first strain leads to a contrasting F major second strain, lyrical trio, and minor key break strain. This new edition condenses the five original trumpet parts into three parts, and re-scores the saxophones to meet modern standards, with additional percussion editing.
