Festival of Lights - David Marlatt
This energetic composition is the composer's way of paying homage to some of his favourite compositions and composers such as John Cheetham, John Barnes Chance and the great Alfred Reed. Short musical quotations and suggestive melodic or rhythmic passages are included in the framework of this piece. The majority of the material is original and the driving rhythms, soaring lyrical themes and jazz-like harmonies are all elements Mr. David Marlatt came to know and enjoy since he began playing in concert bands. There is a scaled-down version of this piece for brass quintet.

A Midwinter Festival - Gene Milford
Using Gustav Holt's great carol In the Bleak Midwinter, the composer has provided a picture of a medieval celebration. Opening with church bells and a distant fanfare, a chorale setting of the carol is followed by a festive round dance. The work concludes with a joyful combination of the carol melody and the dance tune.

Hawkeye Festival Overture - Mark Williams
begins with a bright opening fanfare which leads to a rhythmic Allegro section. An Andante section in 3/4 time features a lyric trumpet solo and numerous harmonic suspensions. A driving percussion interlude in 5/4 with a gradual pyramid that builds in the winds leads to a return of the Allegro. The work ends with a powerful re-statement of the syncopated 5/4 motives and finishes with a flourish. This very appealing work is well-suited for developing concert bands and should provide excellent opportunities for studies in general musicianship, intonation and rhythmic precision.
