The Colorado Mesa University Wind Symphony, under direction of Dr. Calvin Hofer, has hosted the annual and continually growing Best of the West Music Festival. In 2007, Ewazen was guest composer and commissioned for a new concert band work to celebrate Grand Junction and the towering Grand Mesa that rises above the town. In 1968, With a Little Help from My Friends became his first number one hit in the UK. With this song he had his great breakthrough at the legendary Woodstock festival in 1969. The group Teach-In, from the Netherlands, won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1975 with the song Ding-a-Dong. It was the fourth time that a Dutch entry had won the prestigious festival but since then no Dutch artist has even come near first place again. The original Ding-a-Dong was performed, in keeping with tradition, with the accompaniment of a large orchestra. The MGB March was commissioned in 2004 by the Swiss railway corporation "Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn" and first performed by the Belalp Concert Band on the occasion of a march music festival.
