Sinister, dark, and downright creepy... your beginners will love it! This piece uses nothing more complex than two eighth notes with no dotted notes or syncopations. The ranges are conservative so it can be ready to play on that very first fall concert.

Giant's Lair - Kevin Clary
An edgy and exciting piece for very young band to perform on one of their first concerts. The melodic material in the outer sections portrays an agitated giant stomping around violently, and the middle section simulates an unfortunate visitor to his cave tip-toeing around in an attempt to avoid being spotted. The form of the piece is intuitive and memorable while only using five notes. Young students will learn it quickly, and it can be prepared for a concert in a reasonably short amount of time.

Over The Hills - Alexandre Carlin
"Over The Hills" is the perfect introductory march for beginners. Utilizing limited ranges and rhythmic content, this piece depicts a pleasant walk of a group of children in the countryside. The march character reflects the spirit and hopeful nature of childhood exploration, much like the young players on stage joyfully playing this piece at their first concert.Original Item#: RWS-2217-00

The Maid of the Mist - Herbert L. Clarke / arr. David Marlatt
This fun light piece is a great showpiece for the cornet. It is named after the sight-seeing boats for tourists in Niagara Falls. Set as a polka, there is much opportunity for the soloist to display quick fingers and light triple tonguing. To create a clean new edition, dynamics and articulations were made more consistent in the parts. Other items were changed to reflect the bands of today including F Horn parts rather than E-flat and the percussion parts have been reorganized. This is the first time this work has been available with a full conductor score rather than a piano reduction.

Twelve Seconds to the Moon - Robert W. Smith
is a celebration of man's conquest of the sky and the heavens above. While the Wright Brothers' first manned flight lasted a mere twelve seconds, astronauts were soon walking the surface of the moon. Robert W. Smith's spectacular sonic adventure stretches the envelope with some of the most exotic and adventurous scoring for percussion and winds ever achieved. Searing and blistering musical lines merge with explosive percussion to make this one of the most sensational works for wind ensemble or concert band in concert band literature today. (12:06)
