Introtus - Traditional
The Latin word "Introitus" means 'entry'. Originally, this was a psalm sung to accompany the entrance of a bishop, priest or celebrant into the church. Later it was incorporated into the mass with alternating sung and spoken text, reflecting the mood of the liturgy. Jacob de Haan's Introitus, in which he has arranged the hymns Puer natus est nobis and Lobt Gott, Ihr Christen alle gleich, is a wonderful introduction to the Christmas season and can be performed with any instrumental combination with mixed choir and organ ad libitum.

The conductor has the good habit of trying to improve the sound of the fanfare by means of practicing chorales and hymns. Jan Van der Roost has used these facts in the dynamic concert piece 'Spirit of Independence': a chorale-like middle section is surrounded by music bubbling full of energy.

Russian Easter Overture - Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov
Rimsky-Korsakov composed his three greatest orchestral works over a short period: he completed Capriccio Espagnol in 1887, and he composed Russian Easter Overture in 1888, simultaneously with the symphonic suite Scheherazade. Russian Easter Overture is a magnificent overture in a single movement that was dedicated to the composers Borodin and Moussorgsky. Several hymns of the Russian Orthodox Church create a characteristic atmosphere. Arranger Tohru Takahashi has made the sound even more colourful by using several mallet percussion instruments.
