Guardian Angels gives a musical expression to the legend of Reverend Louis Henri Bhler referring to the use of Psalm 34.North-west Veluwe and in particular Oldebroek (The Netherlands) has a very rich religious tradition which is demonstrated by its monumental churches. They tell the story of a stirring history in which Reverend Bhler played a crucial role. Inspired by his arrival as a pastor in 1870 in the neighbouring Oosterwolde, two big religious communities came into existence with their characteristic churches but this rivalry also resulted in great social unrest.This composition reflects on this striking personality and in particular on the story of the Angel Guard.'One evening Reverend Bhler has given a sermon in Oldebroek and he walks over the Church path through the pastures to Oosterwolde. On this dark and stormy evening Bhler's opponents are waiting for the pastor in ambush. They want to drown him in a watercourse near the Church path but abandon their plan because Bhler is accompanied by two men. The next day it comes to an encounter between Bhler and his opponents. They repent their, fortunately unexecuted , plan. Bhler firmly believes that on the previous night he walked alone over the Church path, and was not accompanied by two men. It was concluded that it must have been the angels who had protected Bhler.'Psalm 34 is central to this composition and this because of its powerful melody but also because the lyrics of verse 4 of the rhymed version fit in well with the special legend of Reverend Bhler:The Lord's angel gathered round himAn invincible heavenly guard,Who tries God's will, around himSo he's well guard(ed)A second melodious and harmonic cell is a musical transformation of the name 'Bhler'. This short but solemn overture was written on the occasion of the 110th jubilee of Harmonie Hautcharage, Luxembourg. It is an homage to Jean-Paul Frisch and his son Grard (the present conductor), who each have been conducting the ensemble for many years. Under their leadership, the band has developed and improved remarkably. The very first musical theme, presented during the introduction of this little overture, is based on the letters hidden in the names Jean-Paul and Grard Frisch (in which h is considered b - as it is in German), thus aiming the spotlight on both key figures in the history of Harmonie Hautcharage. After the rather stately intro, the allegro is more joyful and lighthearted, thus depicting the optimism of the many young players of the band. The end is exciting and energetic: it radiates positivity and belief in the future.

Let Me Stay Young was written by Arne Bendiksen and recorded and released on a single with Wenche Myhre in 1964. The song was also released on the album of the same name later that year. "Let Me Stay Young" took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1964, where it finished in third place. Despite the fact that the song did not win, it became the big hit after the competition. It became the breakthrough for 17-year-old Wenche Myhre and is still one of her many signature songs today.

"Waltz for Debby" was written by American jazz pianist and composer Bill Evans (1929-1980). It was heard for the first time on his 1956 debut record "New Jazz Conceptions". This recording made the tune his most famous one, included on several later recordings both for solo piano and his usual trio format. It also became a favorite on almost all his concerts. The tune is a kind of a musical portrait of Evans' niece, Debby Evans. In Scandinavia, Swedish singer Monica Zetterlund made it popular for a wider audience through her 1964-recording accompanied by Evans and his trio. On this recording, the song was renamed "Monicas vals".

"Optimist" is one of the most well-known songs by Norwegian singer and composer Jahn Teigen. It was written for the Norwegian Eurovision in 1989. It did not win this competition, but is still one of the greatest Norwegian songs from the late 1980's. This arrangement is very close to the original in form, rhythmic- and melodic lines. The repeat at bar 65 may be played as many times as one wish, or it can be omitted.

Brooklet is one of the movements from Grieg's Lyric Pieces for Solo Piano opus 62. Information for the conductor: Brooklet is an technically advanced work for solo piano. In this arrangement, technical passages are simplified by overlapping and doubling some of the parts. To master the technical challenges and make it sound effortless, it is important to pay close attention to balance and precision. Some of the parts also have alternative parts added which can lower the technical challenges a bit. The normal instrumentation are Clarinet 1-2-3, but there is also an "optional" part for Solo Clarinet. This is included on the same sheet as Clarinet 1. Both parts can stand alone or be played together. (i.e. The Solo Clarinet part can be played in addition to Clarinet 1, in whole or in part if desired, or it can replace Clarinet 1 entirely, using only Solo Clarinet and Clarinet 2 and 3.). From bar 5 to bar 13, there is a suggested solo for Solo Clarinet. If played by Solo Clarinet, please omit Clarinet 1, 2 & 3 for these bars.

Power - Larry Clark
This is one of Harold Bennett's (pseudonym of Henry Fillmore) lesser-known marches, but that is no indication of its quality. It is a 6/8 march in standard march form but what is unique about this classic from the original Bennett Band Book is that it is one of the few Bennett marches that includes a "break strain." This makes it a great introduction for younger students to prepare them to play the more challenging marches of Fillmore, Sousa, and others.

If you have a large percussion section, Credo might be a perfect piece for your young band. It is very carefully scored and cross-cued, so that almost any size band can perform it. Composed in sonatina form, it is highly energetic and tuneful, and the bass instruments have lots of fun, easy things to play. Credo is very safely scored, with Piccolo, 2nd Oboe, 2nd Bassoon, Contra-Alto Clarinet, 3rd Trombone and Double Bass parts optional. Ranges are very reasonable; the only sixteenth notes in the piece are in the snare drum.
