This is very undeserved, especially whenwe compare it with Malando's 'Cordilleras de los Andes', which was very successful indeed.Caribbean Concerto is a suite in three movements with varied Latin-American dances.

Again a new edition in the Creative Compositions series. This piece was revolutionary in its time in 1972, because it was the first time a 5/4 bar had been used.. It is a real program piece with a film scenario setting, which can be shown in the beginning titles: (Corporated Pictures Presents, Costumed by, Music by etc.) and description of the scenes (the Hero drives away to the castle; the Count is playing golf; That night in the club). An inspiring work for the audience, who can sit back, close their eyes, and visualize the whole story in their minds.

£159.60Rapsodie Symphonique - Serge Lancen
The Rapsodie Symphonique, written in 1976, was commissioned by the French Broadcasting Institution for the European Radio Composition Contest. It was recorded by the Musique des Gardiens de la Paix conducted by Dsir Dondeyne on 4 March 1977 and was awarded a First Prize at the E.R.U. (European Radio Union) contest. The rhapsody was published in 1978 and dedicated to his American friend Professor Al Wright, conductor of the Purdue University Band. The latter recorded the composition in 1979 as it had already recorded the Festival Kerkrade Jan Molenaar conducting in 1971 and the Parade Concerto with the composer at the piano and Jan Molenaar conducting in 1973.

£116.40Cordoba - Isaac Albéniz
CORDOBAThis piece is an extract from the five part piano work 'Cantos de Espaa' (Songs from Spain) opus 232 which consists of 'Preludio' (Asturias), 'Oriental', 'Bajo la Palmera' (Cuba), 'Cordba' and 'Seguidillas' (Castilla); some of these parts are also to be found in the 'Suite Espaola'. 'Cordoba', the last part but one, seems to announce the grandeur and serenity of the composer's last works; it is as if he was preparing to retire from the hectic dynamic world. The introduction has a subdued, almost liturgical character, whereas the next dance sounds rather very solemn. Cordba is as an island in the restless stream. It is an Andalusian dance with a majestic character similar to that of the city which inspired the work. This very harmonious composition is one of Albniz's finest.

Although he was born in Catalonia, Albniz was strongly attracted by the music of Southern Spain, Andalusia and especially Granada. He told his friends this was due to the fact he had 'Moorish blood' in his veins. 'Torre Bermeja' (the vermilion tower) is the last of a set of twelve characteristic pieces and is a passionate and fiery representation of an old Moorish prison tower located in the city of Granada. It was made famous by some guitar arrangements, such as those by Antonio Lozano and Andres Segovia. It is a typical serenade with an 'Andalusian touch' which boasts a splendid tune floating between guitar accompaniment elements.

'Sweet Betsy from Pike' - This is the story of the girl who crossed the big prairie with her brother Mike. The setting has a reminiscene of the French 'Musette Waltz' because it was said that Betsy originally came from Paris.3. 'The Fiddler in the Rain' - This is the song from the play 'The Arkansas Traveller' which was very popular in Ohio in the 1850's.4. 'Johnny and Frankie' - This is the combination of 2 songs 'When Johnny comes home' and 'Frankie and Johnny'. The lyrics of the songs have nothing in common, but the two melodies seem to be made to blend perfectly.

£186.20Wald Sinfonie - Kees Vlak
It was during his stay at Freiburg, Germany, where he was attending a Music Festival, that Kees Vlak found his inspiration for this romantic work. At this festival he was awarded a prize for one of his compostitions, which was played by several bands from different countries. The composer was staying in the small village of Horben, hidden among pine woods on a mountain at the border of the Black Forest. From the balcony of his room he had a splendid view on the Schawinsland Valley, scarcely hidden by the tops of the huge pines. Each morning a blackbird singin in a huge pine next to his window woke him up. This bird song opens the composition.Whenever possible the composer and his wife went for a walk in the Black Rorest. The rediscovery of this wonderful area is expressed by the steadily increasing number of tone colours, used in the orchestration. Each village still boasts its own folk music and dances. More than one hundred bands were playing all around; the Black Forest seemed to be the scene of one huge festival. The image of the Black Forest is also linked to that of hunting scenes, so the next theme is being introduced by hunting horn themes. The second theme paints the lake "Titisee". At first the lake is very calm, but a stiff breeze sets both water and music alike in motion. The small town of Titisee is very popular with tourists and is famous for its woodcutting, its clockworks and musical boxes. It is a popular folk tune, played by a musical box that makes the link with the next theme. The joy and cheerfulness of the dancing village people is expressed by a movement which works out the initial theme.On leaving the little town, one can hear once more the hunting music from the wood as well as the song of the birds. The new theme is againg closely linke d to the hunt and played by the typical German helicon-like euphoniums.this theme interacts with the wecond theme and the word ends with a grnd finale meant as a musical hommage tot this wonderful area.

£90.30Omaggio a S.E.M. - L. Navisse
This concertmarch was composed in 1994 and it was dedicated to a medieval town. At the beginning you can hear the dissonant blares (trumpets, cornets, horns and trombones) symbolising the rivalry between the four districts of the town. Then, the piece is a symphonic march in Italian style but not completely traditional. Before the end, it is possible to hear the blares of brass again, but now they are melodious, so the piece turns sweetly to the end.
