Rejoice and Sing! (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Rutter, John - Noble, Paul

Rejoice and sing! was written in celebration of the 95th birthday of Sir David Willcocks. John Rutter writes: I was delighted to be asked by OUP to compose a new carol in his honour. Writing 'Rejoice and sing!' I recalled the many happy Christmas concerts he conducted with the Bach Choir in London's Royal Albert Hall, thinking also of his fondness for quirky rhythms, hence the lopsided 7/8 which runs through much of the music. This arrangement is written for combined Concert Band and Chorus, but may be performed by band alone. It is compatible with the original version except that it is transposed down by one-half step (semi-tone).

Sahara (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Deleruyelle, Thierry

Sahara takes you on a journey to the largest desert in the world. Located in the north of the African continent, it covers eight million square kilometres and spreads across ten nations. The work describes the various landscapes that the Sahara has to offer, using different instrumental groups to underline different characteristics. Both an intense rhythmic passage with lots of percussion, as well as a chorale part with beautiful brass segments, make this a wonderful yet challenging piece. It also allows you to work on different technical aspects with your band and is suitable for a concert or a contest. Duration: 4.00

Celestial Prospect (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Heaton, Wilfred - Wheeler, Alastair

Wilfred Heaton's compositions have a worldwide appreciation and although his output was small it is work of the highest integrity and calibre. The history surrounding 'Celestial Prospect' is somewhat sketchy. The composer describes it as a 're-casting' of an earlier work written sometime in the 1940's the score of which is now lost. The theme 'Come comrades dear' has been known from Christian Mission days and reflects the composer's penchant for old Salvation Army tunes which are simple and direct in character. The following 5 variations contain much interest and originality including a beautiful 'elegy to departed comrades.

God So Loved the World (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Stainer, John - Horner, Kevin

The Crucifixion, an oratorio composed by John Stainer in 1887 was designed in such a way that most church choirs would find it accessible. Also, it helpfully includes five hymns so that the congregation can contribute also. Whilst the text for this work was written by W J Sparrow Simpson, who worked with Stainer in an earlier work entitled 'Mary Magdalene', that used in this setting of 'God, so loved the world' is literal from John 3 verse 16 in the scriptures. This movement of 'The Crucifixion' is the most popular and widely used.

Jerusalem (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Parry, Hubert C. - Noble, Paul

Possibly the most English of all hymns, Jerusalem, with words by William Blake and Music written by Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, by many is considered to be the unofficial anthem of England. Interestingly, by some within the Church, Jerusalem they say is in fact not a hymn due to it not being a prayer or praising God. As such it has been removed from hymn lists, most notably at Southwark Cathedral.

Don't Stop Me Now (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Mercury, Freddie - Murtha, Paul

Although this tune by iconic band Queen met with a rather cool reception when it was first released in 1979, over the years it has become one of the bands most popular songs thanks in part to frequent use in advertising, television and film. Featuring trademark tight harmonies and a dramatic style shift from moderate ballad to double time rock, this arrangement will sound terrific even with young players.
