This work, reminiscent of a film score, describes the history of the Dutch town Horn. A broad lyrical theme, played by the horns, depicts the history of this town on the river Meuse. A cheerful Allegro represents rural life around the town and its castle. Following this the horn theme returns and the music changes dramatically. A drum roll symbolises the times of war that the town and castle have known. The threatening music eventually develops once more into the hopeful horn theme, a sign of reconstruction and the future.Duration: 10:45

Freedom Rising
"Freedom Rising" was written in commemoration of the 150 anniversary of Quantrill's raid on the unsuspecting town of Lawrence, Kansas where the residents bravely fought to defend their town from the forces of pro-slavery western counties. Opening with a dark and haunting woodwind choir, the composition quickly journeys into the raging battle that took place that fateful August day in 1863. The slower middle section is a powerful hymn expressing the hope of all townspeople for a successful defense to this sneak-attack. The dramatic powerful conclusion leaves us with the knowledge that this community fought desperately for the freedom of all people. A powerful piece that brings to life this brief but important period in American history.

Up From Earth's Center
This brilliant programmatic work from the pen of Rob Romeyn is an incredible display of beauty, sensitivity, emotion and vigorous intensity. The journey begins on the morning of the great 1868 Hawaii earthquake. Peaceful and beautiful sounds of the black sand beach of Punalu'u are heard as the sun rises. The music then develops, first with a statement of the traditional melody "The Earth Is Our Mother" to remind us to respect Mother Earth and be mindful of her incredible powers. As the tempo quickens we are musically transported into the events of the fateful day, as the earthquake and resulting Tsunami ensued. As the movement of the earth subsides, we return to the beach of Punalu'u as Mother Earth begins her renewal of new life. Certain to become a classic for concert and festival use, this is music of highest quality!

Windrider
"Windrider" is a celebration of life in the notorious wind found on the high plains of North America. An ever-evolving melody accompanied by evocative motivic elements and textures consistently suggest the wind. A rhythmically driving beginning is followed by a soaring lyric melody that is elaborated by thick chords that are masterfully scored. This lyric portion has elements of modern notation that keep the listener engaged and serve the music perfectly. All elements are drawn together into an explosive conclusion that unite the memorable melodies, lush harmonies and energetic rhythms showcasing all sections of the band. The composer's sister, Kari Bremnes, has had great success with this song through her album "Det vi har" from 2017. Subsequently, Elisabeth Andreassen has also performed it on the TV program "Hver gang vi mtes".The lyrics are about the thoughts one has when their son has to leave for military service and the new life it brings in an increasingly uncertain world.Lars Bremnes has been a soloist with the bands of the Norwegian Armed Forces several times, and this arrangement is written for such an occasion.

This composition is based on the children's song 'Three Blind Mice', of which the melody is featured in a range of variations: in a canon, in inversion, in minor, transformed, with changing harmonisations and orchestrations, and in different times and tempi. The work consists of three continuous, contrasting movements: 1) Mouse March: The mice cheerfully set off while the original melody is presented as a march. - 2) Hymn: In a tuneful hymn, the wonderful praises of the life of mice are sung. - 3) Catch Me If You Can: In an animated chase, the farmer's wife is trying to catch the mice. Following a stirring acceleration, she cuts off their tails in accordance with the lyrics of the song. I hope this work, with its humorous touch, will be a welcome contribution to the expansion of interesting repertoire for the lower divisions. - Bert Appermont

£139.99A Man's Destiny - Jan de Haan
A Man's Destiny has the Frisian line 'Yn Ieren en Sinen' ('with much conviction') as its subtitle. The work was commissioned by CMV Harmonie Sneek (based in Friesland, The Netherlands) to acknowledge their 95th anniversary. The composer based this work on the life of a former member of the band, who played flugelhorn in the ensemble until the age of 86. Their favourite piece of music, 'Canon' by Thomas Tallis, provided a great deal of musical inspiration for this characteristic and versatile work.
