Summa Cum Laude - Werner van Cleemput

This concert march was written for concert band, though the composer later also wrote a version for fanfare band. The work is dominated throughout by the main theme A-G-D-F-G and requires a full band. The form is that of a classic British concert march in the ABA(B) form; the energetical and virtuoso A part contrasts with the solemn and melodic B part. The coda develops the theme of the trio. The work is dedicated to Dr.Vondis Miller and the Calgary University Symphonic Band. The latter premiered the work on 23 January 1985 in Calgary, Canada.

    All in - Ton Kotter

The Dutch composer and conductor Ton Kotter (Aalten 1906 -1991) was trumpeter-violinist with the Royal Marine Band before being appointed conductor of the Nijmegen Police Band. He conducted a lot of amateur wind bands (a.o. in Helmond, Nijmegen, Tilburg, Hilvarenbeek, Glanerbrug, Enschede and Loon op Zand) and for these bands he wrote several fine marches. Among his best-known marches are 'Hunter March' (1976) and 'Ambiorix' (1976). 'All-In', probably his last march, was composed in 1981 for the 70th anniversary of the symphonic band 'Excelsior' at Eibergen, conducted by the composer.

    Trombone Show - Jaroslav Zeman

Trombone Show by Jaroslav Zeman is a sweeping solo for four trombones and concert band, with different musical styles. The composition begins with a energetic march before a slow swing leads over to a temperamental mambo. With the march sounds of the beginning "Trombone Show" comes to a effective finale. The four soloist interacting with each other and with the band makes this piece a musical enjoyment for both musicians and audience.

    Galileo - Thomas Doss

For this spirited concert march, the creative and lively mind of the great Italian mathematician, physicist and astronomer Galileo Galilei, who lived from 1564 to 1642, served as a source of inspiration. Galileo was the founder of experimental thinking in physics, and he made numerous discoveries and formulated many useful theories in this field. His reluctance to unquestioningly accept established authorities and ideas was also typical of his inventive mind. Moreover, Galileo was more accessible to the common people. He tried to encourage them to think for themselves, and he published his research results in the form of dialogues that were easy to understand. This accessibleconcert march - a suitable homage to Galileo - builds a bridge between the musician and the listener.
