Since 1980, the American composer Uri Hudorov is active in the world of symphonic bands in Israel and he has written quite a lot of arrangements for television companies and several military bands over there. Molenaar Edition published already several works such as 'Western Sax Duo' and 'A Toccatina + Fughetta'. In this new short but spicy and colourful composition full of Latin-American charm, the percussion group plays a rather important role with solos for marimba, conga drums and timbales. £186.20Jeanne d'Arc - Alex Poelman
Jeanne d'Arc (Joan of Arc) is a consistent solo piece for French horn and symphonic band. The score evokes the life story of the 14th century French heroine and freedom fighter. God orders her to deliver her people from the English oppressors. Driven by a strong will, the French gain one victory after another, but in the end the French get fed up with Jeanne's desire for liberty. She is betrayed and handed over to the English. At her trial she refuses to swear the oath and is condemned to the stake. Joan of Arc is canonized by the Catholic Church as late as in 1920. In the score the heroine is represented by the solo French horn. The horn's many-sided characteristics, ranging from romantic sounds to heroic passages in the upper register, are demonstrated throughout the different parts of the story. 'Jeanne d'Arc' was premiered by the symphonic band Wilhelmina Glanerburg with the fantastic French horn soloist Ren Pagen in 2006.

At the end of 1944, Allied troops invaded the Netherlands from Belgium. Hope and longing for freedom, which now seemed so close, swept through the Netherlands: Operation Market Garden was launched. Huge numbers of paratroopers made the dangerous jump to take over enemy territory on the south side of the Rhine. Fierce fighting and attempts to cross and secure the river resulted in heavy casualties for the liberating forces. Ground support from the south came too late and there was no alternative but to call off Operation Market Garden. What looked like a quick liberation of the Netherlands turned into a long, bitter struggle. To make matters worse, a harsh winter followed: hunger and cold ate away at hope and the prospect of a liberated Netherlands. On August 14th 2020, the composer Noah Wada saw the Perseids meteor shower from a hill. He could clearly see many bright stars streaming across the sky, as if they were falling down on the earth. The dazzling sight was enough to inspire him to compose this overture."Starlit Landscape" was commissioned by the Kawagoe High School Band, Kawagoe City, Saitama, Japan and premiered on March 20th, 2023 by the band and Mr. Hiroki Mori, director."Starlit Landscape" is a sparkling overture from the Japanese composer Naoya Wada. It begins with a bold brass fanfare over a bright woodwind passage.

£38.20De Garde - C.J.N. Cori
Cori was a pen-name of the Dutch composer Cornelius Herminus Rijke (1888-1975). He was conductor of several amateur wind bands in Hilversum and Muiden. Cori wrote over 40 marches, 27 of which have been published by Molenaar Edition. The very first 'Avanti' was released in 1948, another, entitled 'Imperial', was published under the pen-name Charl. H.Ride . Other popular marches by Cori are 'Concordia', 'De Opmars', 'Entre du Dfil' and, above all, 'De Garde'(The Guard), a stirring parade march published in 1949.

£78.20Caribbean Summer - Luigi di Ghisallo
Most people who live in the Caribbean are of an outspokenly straightforward nature, and always in good mood. "Caribbean Summer", a three-movement piece, captures this very mood: Very early in the morning, a summer day begins with "Guadeloupe", a Caribbean waltz. In this the change from a triple meter to a duple meter counter rhythm is of prime importance. From it, the music draws a particular lilt.At noon there is a happy and lively hustle and bustle on the beach. Vendors ("The Coconut Vendor") sing and offer their sugar-peanuts ("Chou-Cou"). A guest spontaneously begins to drum his fingers on a table, a second one reaches for a calabash or a cowbell - a cha-cha-cha is born. Finally, in "Caribbean Nights" a joyful parade of happy people march down the streets. Based on this very feeling, a special dance developed chiefly in the Dominican Republic: a simple basic two-step pattern in even rhythm becomes a "Merengue" together with the right, so to speak contra rotating motion of the hips! This cheerful dance then marks the close of day in a happy way - and in the morning everything will begin over again...

Alfred Evensen (1883 - 1942) was born in Troms, but moved to Harstad 16 years old to start as a student at The Military School of Music. He was director and chief of the military band in 1918, and worked there for 12 years. In 1930 he was appointedto conductor of the military band in Bergen, and worked there until he was appointed to take over from Johannes Hanssen (Valdres march) as manager and conductor of the military band in Oslo in 1934.With this band he participated in a majorinternational military music collection in Paris in 1935 With a great success. In addition to his work in military music, he was a highly respected conductor of choir and composed, in additionto his compositions for bands, many songs for choir.He died in Oslo, after he was arrested because of his resistance against the German occupation. At his own request he was buried in Harstad, and there is also a statue of him.Norwegian Dance No. 1 and No. 2 dates from 1911 and 1912respectively. They are composed in the style of Grieg's Norwegian Dances, Op. 35, but, unlike Grieg, Evensen has used his own themes for the compositions.

The theme of this composition is immediately evident from the title, which almost requires no further explanation. It will never be possible to represent or reproduce the full implications of a tragedy such as war, all too often forgotten, concealed, exploited or written off as being an evil that is "necessary" for the development of civilisation. War changes the course of human history: man kills man, fathers bury their sons, children take up arms, and mankind is devastated by evil, choosing death over life. The atrocities, repeatedly perpetrated and evident to all observers, are an offence to human dignity. Yet they are tolerated and, at times, even re-interpreted as inevitable remedies for "obstacles" to the global economy, in order- it would seem- to build "a better world". And all this goes on despite the fact that the terrible scars left by past wars are still evident and should serve as a warning to ensure that such tragedies do not return to devastate our world. "No War" is thus a heart-felt protest against any form of culture that justifies war as a means of gaining wealth and power, satisfying the economic needs of the richest countries at the expense of the poorest nations. In so doing the one truly fundamental value is annihilated, that of human life.
