Return to Wind River (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Spears, Jared

The Wind River Mountain Range and many wilderness areas lie southeast of Yellowstone's National Park in Wyoming. This descriptive overture was inspired by the composer's visits to this beautiful, pristine and mysterious country during his college days. The outer allegro sections recall the excitement of travel, exploration and discovery. The slower, contrasting section portrays the stillness and beauty of a serene mountain lake or peaceful riverbank where, a long time ago, Native Americans may have fished, hunted, and played. Prelude to Parsifal - Richard Wagner

Parsifal, written in 1882, was the final opera by composer Richard Wagner (1813-1883). The prelude is a miniature masterpiece consisting of only 116 measures. The form of the prelude is similar to that of the classical three-movement overture and consists of four musical motives: the mystical realm of the Holy Grail; the Grail itself in the Dresden Amen; Faith, represented by the brass chorale; and the Agony of Amfortas. This transcription by John R. Bourgeois faithfully adheres to Wagners intent both in key relationships and orchestration.

A Trombone Family Reunion (Trombone Trio with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fillmore, Henry - Glover, Andrew

Between 1908 and 1929, Henry Fillmore composed a series of fifteen novelty pieces featuring the trombone section with band. These became collectively known as "The Trombone Family," with names and subtitles connecting them in sort of a musical genealogy. The three most popular family members, "Lassus Trombone," "Miss Trombone," and "Shoutin' Liza Trombone" join together in a whimsical way for "A Trombone Family Reunion," along with some "shirttail relatives" depicted by famous trombone excerpts from the symphonic repertoire. Included are quotations from "Blue Bells Of Scotland," "Symphony No. 4" by Tchaikovsky, "Tannhauser Overture," "Second Hungarian Rhapsody," "Prelude to Act III of Lohengrin," "Hallelujah Chorus," "Ride of the Valkyries," "Turkey In The Straw," and a few other surprises. Festive Overture (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Yagisawa, Satoshi

This work was commissioned by the civilian wind orchestra Shimizu il compagno, based in Shimizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, as a commemorative work for their 10th Anniversary. The world premiere was performed by the ensemble, conducted by Hiromichi Hamada in 2017. Having held discussions with the head of the orchestra, Tomohiro Tsuji, and members of the group, Satoshi Yagisawa settled on a central motif for this commemorative work: fellow, or companion, in the sense of the Italian il compagno, which features in the orchestra's name. The work also strives to describe the characteristic friendliness of Shimizu city, a place known for its warmth and kindness which is visible from both Mount Fuji and the sea. The composition is written in Yagisawa's typical dramatic style with an atmosphere of scintillating light and lyrical warmth, making it an excellent choice for opening a concert.Duration: 5.15
