Alarums, Opus 27 (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Mailman, Martin

Martin Mailman (1932-2000) composed "Alarums for Band, Op. 27" in 1962 in Greenville, North Carolina. The word "alarum" means a "call to arms." The piece was originally titled "Overture for Band" and was later changed to "Alarums for Band" sometime between its completion in 1962 and publication in 1969 with John Barnes Chance, Mailman's colleague and friend, probably suggesting the change in title sometime during this period. Orpheus in the Underworld (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Offenbach, Jacques - Van der Beek, Wil

Jacques Offenbach was born in 1819 in Cologne, Germany, but as a child he moved to Paris where he received a thorough musical education. In his operetta Orpheus in the Underworld, Offenbach parodies the famous Greek legend of Orpheus and Euridice. Indirectly, however, he criticises the complacency of many of his contemporaries. The overture was not written entirely by Offenbach, Carl Binder added various pieces to it for a Viennese production of this operetta in 1860 and since then, these pieces have remained part of the composition. This appealing transcription includes the famous Can Can which is sure to get your audience high kicking in the aisles!Duration: 9:15

Eine Kleine Rockmusik (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Jennings, Paul

By the time the Mozart family tree had blossomed into the twentieth century, there was very little genius left in the bloodline. His only real talent seems to be plagarism, but your students and audiences will have a ball unraveling his zany conconction. Includes: The Boy from New York City; Pachelbel's Canon; Earth Angel; 1812 Overture; Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, K.525; A Groovy Kind of Love; The Loco-Motion; Mony, Mony; New World Symphony (Theme); Ode to Joy; Peter and the Wolf (Theme); You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'.

HARLEQUIN (Broughton) (Concert Band) - Broughton, Bruce

Harlequin is the most popular of the comic servant characters from the Italian commedia dell'arte who, although a slow thinker, was acrobatic and nimble - he would never perform a simple action when the addition of a cartwheel or backflip would spice up the movement! The characteristics are aptly portrayed musically in Bruce Broughton's mini concert overture. Scramble! (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Hess, Nigel

Commissioned in 1994 by the Royal Air Force, 'Scramble!' Is a concert overture for symphonic wind band inspired by images of the RAF's airfields during the Battle of Britain, immortalised for ever in such films as Reach for the Skies. The pastoral opening depicts the lull before the storm: the young pilots sitting in wicker chairs outside their barracks on a sunlit morning. The peace is, of course, deceptive, suddenly amid siren sounds, there is a shout of 'Scramble!', and a rush to the waiting planes. In no time at all the squadron is airborne, heading for a skirmish over the English Channel and beyond. A lyrical central section featuring a solo cornet depicts the stillness many pilots described as they flew to engage the enemy, before the battle breaks out once more. For those who returned, it would be only a short while before, once again, they would hear the familiar shout of 'Scramble!'Duration: 7.00
