Vistas (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Hodges, Steve

Featuring two melodic motives that are developed texturally and rhythmically throughout the piece, Vistas begins in a light, reflective manner before gradually building into a majestic contrapuntal statement by the brass. A driving percussion introduction begins the Vigoroso section and provides the rhythmic foundation for the second "Vista." This minor setting of the initial motives provides an exciting variation that features a variety of meter changes and syncopated passages. A restatement of the initial motives with the driving rhythmic accompaniment begins an extended conclusion that brings the piece to a dynamic finish. Duration: 4.15

Euphonium Concerto No.2 (Euphonium Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

The original concept for this work was a suite of short movements, each with its own character, but by the time the first movement was complete it was clear that a conventional three-movement format was going to work out better. The opening movement contains much syncopation and is almost rag-like in style. The slower second movement explores the unsurpassable ability of the euphonium to play lyrically, with a theme that is later taken up by the band whilst the soloist weaves a filigree descant. This leads straight into the third movement, which is almost bebop in style and shows off the jazzier capabilities of the euphonium. The concerto was composed for the virtuoso soloist, Steven Mead. A version for euphonium and piano is also available.Duration: 16:30

Largo (from Winter, The Four Seasons) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Vivaldi, Antonio - Sparke, Philip

Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) stands, with Handel and J.S. Bach, as one of the titanic figures of late Baroque composition. Not only was he lauded as a composer of vocal and instrumental works both sacred and secular, he was without serious competition, the most prolific composer of his age. In addition to hundreds of vocal works, including forty-nine operas, he composed five hundred concertos. The Four Seasons are probably the best known of his concerti with the second movement, Largo, portraying time spent by a roaring fire listening to the rain pounding against the window. This arrangement for concert band retains all the warmth of the original.Duration: 3:45

Singapore Rhapsody (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jacob

Singapore Rhapsody is an exciting work in two movements based on popular Malaysian folksongs. The songs that occur in the first movement are Rasa Sayang eh (a love song), Gelang Sipaku Gelang (a song about community spirit), Suriram (a song about a girl proclaiming her virtues) and Di-Tanjung Katong (a love song that takes place at the Cape Katong on the southeast coast of Singapore). The second movement features Lenggang Kangkung, which literally means "The swaying of the watercress," Katang Lompat (a moralistic song about the symbolism of the frog) and finally Kenek kenek-lah Udang (a wedding song). Each movement of this enchanting work can be performed separately but a complete performance will be the crowning moment of any concert.Duration: 9:00
