Variations on Shalom Chaverim Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
Shalom Chaverim is an ancient Hebrew (farewell)song, which was originally sung at the end of a celebration or meeting. It was and is mostly sung as a round. Freely translated the words mean "Goodbye, friends, goodbye and see you again!". The varying moods at a parting have been captured very well by Andreas Schulte in his arrangement 'Variations on Shalom Chaverim'. The composer himself says about the song, 'Although the melody is in a minor key, the overall atmosphere in the song is positive. one wishes each other all the best. Saying goodbye, however, also hurts. When you slow down the pace of the melody and add 'blue notes' in the harmonies, this can be sensed immediately.' Schulte refers here to the first variation. The second variation is very intense with possibly even deeper-felt emotions. 'Variations on Shalom Chaverim' ends on a cheerful and positive note, in fast tempo, and with oriental elements in the melody: 'L'hitra'ot, Shalom' (See you again, and farewell!). 05:00

Virtuoso (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
Virtuosi consists of a single movement divided into two continuous sections, each characterised by a particular mood. The opening section creates a serene and mysterious atmosphere with the clarinets introducing a warm, smooth melody which naturally flows towards a passage containing much ornamentation. A calmato brings the first section to a close, giving the soloist the opportunity to reveal the warm tones of the low chalumeau register. The second section begins with a sequence of rhythmic, dynamic sound effects which lead into a virtuoso passage from the soloist. The lively passage then softens to let a short theme introduce the majestic and brilliant finale. 08:00

Viva Excelsior (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
Wim Laseroms composed Viva Excelsior on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of music society Excelsior in Losser (the Netherlands).After a powerful tutti entry, the percussion section bridges the period up to the first reprise. This festive march is then followed by a playful melodic theme in which the semi-quavers prevail, accompanied by a beautiful legato countermelody in the horns and euphoniums. During the second reprise a marcato bass solo and a technically sparkling and dynamic contrasting phase alternate. The trio features a new theme - starting from the chalumeau register and leading to an exuberant repeat in the brass with ornamentations by the high wood players. 04:40

Voyage With The VOC follows the route of a ship (first movement) on a visit to the Rajah of Yogakarta (second movement) to load up the ship before returning home (third movement). Vranjanka (pronounced VRAHN-yahn-kah) means "From Vranje," a town in southern Serbia. It is loosely based on the traditional folksong ano Duo. The melody is extant in two versions, one in 7/8 and one in 3/4. The musical form of the piece starts with a fairly slow introductory section, a faster second section cast in a set of variations on the folksong. Vranjanka was commissioned by Timothy and Hilary Reynish in memory of their son William. Duration: 9.00
