Cut to the Chase - Todd Stalter
In popular jargon, the phrase "cut to the chase" means to get to the really interesting or important point, and leave out all that is unnecessary. It originated from early cinematic lore when silent films were full of romantic storylines that inevitably led to much more exciting and memorable chase sequences. In this work, the melodic fragments are tossed around the band to give the impression that everyone is being chased or chasing something. To pay homage to the phrase's past, the frantic atmosphere stops for an obligatory inclusion of a slow, romantic chord progression with a soaring melody, and then the chase resumes, building to a rousing conclusion. The Message on the Rock - Robert Sheldon
The musical inspiration for this piece came from the scenes and speeches on a rock emblazoned with battle scenes from our nation's history. The piece opens with a military-sounding march that leads to a solemn section over which a narrator reads the speeches seen on the rock while a muted trumpet plays "Taps" in the background. The initial march then returns, with fragments of numerous patriotic melodies juxtaposed with the original melody, coming to an exciting ending. (4:45) This title is available in MakeMusic Cloud.

Shrine of the Fallen - Brian Balmages
Written in response to the tragic events in Kiev in 2014, this music draws on the old Ukrainian folk song Plyve Kacha, which became an anthem for many protestors as a symbol of national pride while also mourning the fallen. Described by the composer as Arabian Dances meets Moscow, 1941, the music is incredibly powerful yet introspective. Quotes of the Ukrainian National Anthem add to the intensity of the music, which features the instrumentalists singing in 4-part harmony at the very end of the piece. Absolutely stunning.

The Blue Riband was the coveted trophy bestowed on the vessel that clocked the fastest transatlantic time. Burn the Church ! - Otto M. Schwarz
In the 16th century, Lille was part of Spanish-ruled Flanders, governed by Charles V and later Philip II. The region was shaken by civil, independence, and religious wars. On December 26, 1566, 400 "Wretched" attacked Wattrelos and defended themselves the next day in the cemetery and in the church. The Catholics set the church on fire, where many "Wretched" burned or fled. Some managed to escape with the help of the inhabitants. Wattrelos commemorates this event annually in September with the "Berlouffes" festival. During this festival, dolls are thrown from the church tower, and a large doll is burned.
