Greek Folk Song Suite No. 2 - Franco Cesarini
After the great success of the Greek Folk Song Suite that has lasted for over twenty years, Franco Cesarini once again ventures into the long and rich tradition of Greek folk music. In his Greek Folk Song Suite No. 2, the three movements that form the piece are named after the three dances reworked by the composer. The first movement, Samiotissa is a kalamatianos, whose most distinctive feature is the irregular 7/8-time signature. It is a festive dance, today considered the Greek national dance, which has roots dating back to antiquity. The second movement, Kato sto jalo is a zeibekiko, a slow-paced dance performed by only one man at a time which was apparently originated among the warriors of Ancient Anatolia. The third and last movement, Chasaposerviko, is the fast part of the hasapiko dance and is characterized by its more extensive form.A new journey into the Greek folk tradition that will delight both performers and audience.

Interlude - Wilhem Stenhammar
Wilhelm Stenhammar (1871-1927) was a Swedish pianist, conductor and composer. His compositions include incidental music, operas, concerts, two symphonies and choral works. Initially influenced above all by Wagner and Bruckner, Stenhammar increasingly welcomed in his music a Nordic colour as well as melodic and rhythmic characters typical of Swedish folklore. Completed in 1921, the cantata Sngen (The Song) was Stenhammar's last major work, and its combination of harmonic richness and contrapuntal dexterity ensured it a warm reception. The Interlude connecting the two halves of the work is the only part frequently performed today. It begins by creating a serious and intimate atmosphere, then the music gradually unfolds in increasingly powerful sonorities. Towards the middle a noble brass chorale emerges, but neither this nor the following finely crafted climax manage to change the prevailing mood of subtle melancholy typical of late Romantic Scandinavian composers. This arrangement by Franco Cesarini will allow your audience to get to know this great composer unknown to most.

Risoluto - James Barnes
Risoluto is a music term of Italian derivation, first appearing in the mid 1700s. A great many musical terms such as this are in Italian, because many of the important composers from the Renaissance to the Baroque were from the geographic area known today as Italy and spoke some form of Italian. Consequently, performance markings in their published music, widely disseminated through the rest of Europe, were in the language that they best understood. Music marked in this manner is to be played firmly and decisively with firm resolve and little variance from the marked tempo. It can be seen that while there are several stylistic changes in this piece, the tempo varies not a bit, holding firm at Allegro vivo, quarter note at 120, from first measure to last.

Sinfonietta No. 3 "Zwlfmalgreien Sketches" Op. 56 - Franco Cesarini
In composing the Sinfonietta No. 3 "Zwlfmalgreien Sketches" , Franco Cesarini was inspired by the municipality of Zwlfmalgreien made up of twelve towns, villages and scattered districts which were incorporated into the city of Bolzano (South Tyrol, Italy), over one hundred years ago. The peculiarity of these places, different from each other, but all characterized by rare beauty have contributed to the creation of this 3-movement piece. The first movement - City Life- illustrates activities, tourists and shopping in some of the villages, followed by Mountain Shadowsa slow movement that describes the mountain hamlets where there is little sun in winter. The third and last movement - Classic Vineyards- is lively, in vivid contrast to the previous one. Lots of sun and warmth of the typical wine regions, with echoes of folk dances and Bacchic festivals coming from far away.

Psych et ros - César Franck
Csar Franck, composer, pianist, organist and music teacher, completed Cupid and Psych, his sixth and last symphonic poem in 1887. It was first performed in Paris in 1888 and was a complete success, but the piece later fell completely into oblivion, and it was only thanks to some meticulous research that it has returned to concert halls. The intricate love affair between Psyche and Cupid is an original story of the Metamorphoseswritten in the 2nd century AD by Apuleius. The tale is about overcoming obstacles in love and their final union. The symphonic poem is divided into three parts and calls for a choir. The movement that is the subject of this arrangement, Psych et rosis positioned at the end of the second part.Franco Cesarini's version for wind orchestra carefully illustrates the nuances of the instrumental colours, and represents a real test aimed at demonstrating the musicality and interpretative skills of orchestras and their conductors.
