Beating a drum is fun. Beating a big drum is even more fun. Being a soloist and beating a bass drum is best of all. In 'Big Fun on the Bass Drum' the dream of every starter percussionist is realized. He/she is soloist and is allowed to really beat the drum hard without the conductor putting a stop to it, but beware: a new skin is rather expensive. 'Big Fun on the Bass Drum' is not only about hitting as hard as you can, though. A lot of attention is paid to playing the bass drum very softly. And what is more, the composer has found room to offer the soloist a real cadenza - at this point in the composition he/she can either play the part prescribed or give the audience an improvisation of his/her own. 02:00

Big Screen Fanfare & Rockbuster (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Rae, James

James Rae is the man who put fun into woodwind and brass teaching. His many compositions, especially in the jazz and blues idioms, have often featured on examination syllabuses. Recent years have seen his publications of easy flexible ensembles for younger players and now he turns his attention to the wind band. In this series "The Concert Band Collection", he has written exciting new pieces for the standard concert band line up. Attention is given to each instrument so that the technical and musical requirements do not exceed UK Grade 2.5. An optional piano part will provide "stuffing" and moral support for the young players who will quickly enjoy James' catchy and imaginative music. Each volume contains two titles. This one includes "Big Screen Fanfare", a fanfare in the style of a Hollywood movie theme and the cool "Rockbuster".

Composer Philip Sparke is fascinated by the early history of the American west, in particular the incredible expedition undertaken by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, who were dispatched by President Thomas Jefferson in the first decade of the nineteenth century to map the headwaters of the Missouri River and establish a route to the Pacific: a two-year journey that led them across the uncharted Great Plains and Rocky Mountains.
