The Plains of Pangaea - Max Williams
225 million years ago, all of the earth's land masses were combined into one super continent- Pangaea. This giant land was inhabited by creatures totally alien to the world we know. Imagine if you could travel back in time and visit this primordial world. This work is an attempt to capture, in music, the experience of voyaging to The Plains of Pangaea. This work is very dramatic. Creative combinations of instruments create new colours within the ensemble. Great for concerts or contests.

Saskatchewan Overture - Howard Cable
In the mid 19th Century Saskatchewan was a vast, flat, treeless and lawless area. In the 21st century it is a vibrant energetic blend of wheat, oil, potash and gas. Commissioned by The Saskatoon Concert Band, it was my goal to capture, in music, the forward thrust and the rhythmic pulse of the province today.

Berczy Portraits - Howard Cable
William Berczy is considered to be Canada's most important pre-Confederation artist. Mr. Cable has taken three of his paintings and set them to music. The first portrait is of the Woolsey family of Montreal, painted in 1809, the only group portrait in an interior setting to be found in pre-confederation art. The second is of William Berczy's wife Charlotte, painted in 1791. The third depicts the portrait of the war chief of the Mohawks, Joseph Brant completed in 1807. Berczy had a close association with the Mohawk Confederacy and Chief Brant in establishing the Berczy settlers in Upper Canada.

Blessed - Ryan Meeboer
by Ryan Meeboer is a beautiful lyrical piece that uses a chorale style accompaniment to allow the focus to be solely on the melody.Written in ABA form, the song's simple stylistic features allow the ensemble to spend more time concentrating on learning the fundamentals of performing lyrical music: breath support, long smooth phrases, ensemble balance, and clear tone production. A Cornfield in July and The River - William Penn
With music by William Penn and words based on the writings and poetry of Hamlin Garlin, this is a unique and beautiful opportunity to feature a medium voice with wind ensemble (no saxophones, flugelhorns instead of tpts). Sensitive and extremely musical, with nice variety in the various percussion instrument parts, especially, it is a terrific solo vehicle.

Confrontations - Jack Bullock
Defined, "to oppose a challenge or standing in the way of opposition." In general usage it insinuates that this can likely be resolved and is not as serious as a "fight" or "war." In this music, the composer suggests that a confrontation could be described as a non-harmonic discord which is quickly changed to a pleasing resolution. Energetic percussion contributions enhance this bold new contemporary composition.
