The Russian hymn Salvation is Created was composed by Peter Tchesnokov in 1912. Transcribed many times over the century, it has become a standard in the repertoire for choir, orchestra and band. John Barnes Chance composed his landmark work for band, Incantation and Dance, in 1960 while in residence at the high school in Greensboro, North Carolina. Commissioned by the Union County (NC) Honor Band, Prelude and Pursuit pays tribute to this important composition and its North Carolina connection. A haunting chant-like theme played by the clarinets sets the tone for the slow section. Similar to Chance's work, the fast section begins with percussion instruments introducing thematic elements later picked up and developed by the winds. Intensifying rhythmic elements, as well as carefully controlled random playing effects, contribute to an overall sense of excitement and anticipation. Themes are woven throughout various sections of the band before the opening chant motif makes a brief dramatic appearance near the end. A great teaching tool for young players, Prelude and Pursuit also provides a rewarding performance experience.Duration: 4:50

The Trattamars (Tratta March) was originally written for 'Il trattamento miracolo', an ensemble of five, performing light-hearted musical acts for the young and the old. This march is played when the members of the group appear on stage. The Dutch composer of the march, Matthias van Nispen tot Pannerden, studied classical saxophone as well as band conducting and composition at the Brabant Conservatory in Tilburg. I Love the 207 was composed in February 2010 for a commission by Osumi Symphonic Band in Kyoto. It was first performed on 25 April 2010 by Osumi Symphonic Band, conducted by Masanori Ozaki. This piece begins with an introduction to present the instruments, followed by a light scherzo. The title is an affectionate reference to the commuter rail 207 series of the West Japan Railway Company. When the band started their activity, the 207 series trains began running through the fields next to the building where they practice. Like the Eagle, We Soar and Rise was commissioned by Yuying Secondary School Concert Band and Yuying Alumni Association for the 2010 centenary of the school's foundation. The piece was named by a friend of the composer named Steven Phua, who originally suggested commissioning a new piece to Satoshi Yagisawa. The piece furthermore takes its name from the text of the Yuying Secondary School song.This composition is based on three different concepts: the first one demonstrates 'The founders' passion for education'; the second concept illustrates 'Hardship in war time'; the third one 'To the future' describes the inner strength people find to overcome struggles. This piece concludes with a fanfare, which is the sound of hope that leads to a brighter future in a positive direction.The world premiere of this piece was conducted by Faizal Bin Othman, who is one of the leading educators in Singapore, and was performed by the Yuying Secondary School Concert Band.Duration: 8.00

The arrangement is compatible with the published SATB choral version available seperately. The scoring is done with some cue size notations that should be played if performing without the chorus.
