My Bonny Boy - Ralph Vaughan Williams
The beautiful intermezzo, entitled "My Bonny Boy," from Ralph Vaughan Williams' iconic "English Folk Song Suite" has been skillfully adapted by Ed Huckeby. The Wayfaring Stranger
Based on the American folk song "Poor Wayfaring Stranger", this work for euphonium and band is a movement from "The American Folk Odyssey", a suite for various soloists and concert band. Beginning with a mysterious and lyrical statement of the haunting melody, the piece quickly transitions to the high seas in homage to the early Americans that journeyed by ship to the American continent. The sea chanty setting provides technically rich and effective environment to feature the euphonium with full band interaction while engaging the audience. Following a virtuosic cadenza, the movement concludes in a powerful musical flurry leaving the soloist, band and audience breathless!

A Finnish Rhapsody - Clare Grundman
The opening measured of Clare Grundman's A Finnish Rhapsody are base on Oi kallis Suomenmaa (O Blessed Fatherland), an old South Bothnian melody beloved of the whole Finnish nation. The words of this song epitomize each Finn'snoblest duty, the readiness to sacrifice all in defense of his country's liberty. Next is an episode based on Kesilta (Summer Evening), one of the loveliest of Finnish folk songs, being as delightfully tranquil as the Finnishcountryside. Following this is a section based on the lively folk tune, Talon Tytt (The Country Lass), a mirthful love song about a peasant maid and her swain. This leads into the majestic Finlandia Hymn, created by Jan Sibelius.The work closes with the return of Oh, Blessed Fatherland, with all its strength and grandeur. (5:30)

Mountain Dance - Ed Kiefer
Mountain Dance contains three Appalachian folk songs: "Cluck Old Hen," "Sourwood Mountain," and "Poor Polly." It was written to depict the Appalachian region of the country and its heritage of bluegrass music and fine musicianship. Hints offerish music can be heard, as many of the folk songs from this area were developed by the Irish immigrants who settled in this part of the country.
