These pieces will provide an opportunity for your class band to show off in their first concert what they have learned so far. They are arrangements of songs from the Learning Music Together method. The class band plays the solo part and the wind band the accompaniment and these pieces can easily be prepared for a performance together. On the website, there are free downloadable demo- and accompaniment tracks for these pieces which will help during rehearsals.

This composition is based on the march from Henry Purcell's Music for the funeral of Queen Mary II, a work written in 1694. In this fantasia, various movements flow from one to the next following the main theme: these movements not only elaborate on the theme, but also contrast with it. At times, the thematic material diverges so much, that the work acquires a character of its own: however, the composer often refers back to fragments of the theme.

If you have a large percussion section, Credo might be a perfect piece for your young band. It is very carefully scored and cross-cued, so that almost any size band can perform it. Composed in sonatina form, it is highly energetic and tuneful, and the bass instruments have lots of fun, easy things to play. Credo is very safely scored, with Piccolo, 2nd Oboe, 2nd Bassoon, Contra-Alto Clarinet, 3rd Trombone and Double Bass parts optional. Ranges are very reasonable; the only sixteenth notes in the piece are in the snare drum.

When selecting repertoire for your Christmas concert, it's difficult to find new arrangements that are both challenging and fun to work on, as well as fun for the audience. Crazy For Christmas is one of those pieces by the Belgian composer Bert Appermont. He uses canons and even fugues throughout this arrangement and foresees a spectacular ending. It is based on Il est n le divin Enfant and Away in a Manger but refers wittily to JingleBells, Deck the Halls, The Twelve Days of Christmas and Hark, the Herald Angels Sing. So 'crazy' all the way!
