Alpine Flowers' Party! (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sakai, Itaru

The Hida High School is in a highland city called Takayama in Gifu Prefecture. Takayama City has some of the highest mountains in Japan, atmospheric rows of houses and streets, and a beautiful landscape. The magnificent views from these mountains can be described as a paradise above the clouds. When the composer visited there in the summer of 2001, the lovely flowers spreading through the valley and the refreshing air welcomed him. The flowers looked as if they were fashionably dressed and fully enjoying conversation and a short summer at a reunion party. The composer was inspired by this scenery to compose this piece. The musical party opens with happy greetings of a reunion and joyful themes follow one after another. A light xylophone solo, a waltz and an adagio featuring alternate solos by alto saxophone, euphonium and trumpet lead to a brilliant finale featuring brass and percussion played in irregular time. A beautiful musical picture that your band will enjoy performing for many years.Duration: 10:45

Currents (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Smith, Robert W.

Smith takes its inspiration by the various forms of energy used in the art of music and in music education. Unpredictable, yet constantly flowing, the interacting musical lines of energy provide a unique experience for both performer and listener alike. Duration: 4.30

Pennsylvania 6-5000 (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Myokoin, Masato

In 1942 Glenn Miller voluntarily joined the army and founded the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band and with his music he kept up the morale of the troops. In December 1944 he boarded an aircraft in England that would never reach its destination (France) - the plane was never found. The patriotic legend of this great composer however lives on in his music. Pennsylvania 6-5000 was one of the greatest successes of his famous band and is as popular today as it was in the 1940's.

The Last Rose of Summer (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Beek, Wil

The Last Rose of Summer is a popular Irish folk song. The original text was written by Thomas Moore (1779-1852) and the melody is a traditional air titled The Groves of Blarney. The German composer Friedrich von Flotow (1812-1883) cleverly used this song in his opera Martha, a light-hearted, successful work that is still regularly performed. The melancholy character of The Last Rose of Summer still appeals to many people in the present day and this arrangement by Wil van der Beek certainly does justice to the beauty of the melody. A wonderful item to change the mood of any performance.Duration: 3.30

Blues Forever (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Kernen, Roland

The Blues is a well-known style of popular music. The name does not come out of thin air. After all, the term 'blues' refers to a state of mind: with the sentence 'I got the blues' someone means they are in low spirits. The blues originate in the melancholic music that the slaves in the southern United States made to relieve their depressing circumstances to some extent. This concert work makes use of 'blue notes' (the flattened 3rd and 7th notes of the scale) which give this exciting work its blues sound.Duration: 3:30

David of the White Rock (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

This is an ancient Welsh air that was first published in Relics of the Welsh Bards in 1794. Dafydd (David) Owain was a famous Welsh bard who lived on a farm called Gareg Wen (The White Rock) in Eifionydd, Carnarnvonshire, North Wales. Tradition has it that on his deathbed he called for his harp and composed this lovely melody, requesting that it be played at his funeral. Accordingly, it was later played at the parish church of Ynys-Cynhaiarn. Lyrics were later added by Ceiriog Hughes, which describe the melody's inspiration. This version for concert band retains all the beauty and simplicity of the original.Duration: 2:45

Mandalen Landscapes (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

The picturesque town of Mandalen lies amid snow-covered mountains and scenic fjords on the west coast of Norway. Mndalen Landscapes was commissioned by and written for Mndalen Skule og Ungdomskorps (Mandalen School and Youth Band) for a major concert in November 2003 at the instigation of its conductor, John Hudson, a long-time friend of composer Philip Sparke. Sparke set out to capture the beauty of the area in music and the piece opens with an evocation of the crisp, clear air of a Norwegian morning. After this introduction, the main theme is stated on clarinets and saxophones. A central bridge section takes the listener through several moods until the brass reintroduce the main theme under a woodwind descant. Material from the introduction brings the work to a peaceful close.Duration: 6:00
