£164.95The Kings Go Forth (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Gregson, Edward
This work was commissioned jointly by the Royal Air Force Music Service and an American Universities Consortium and received its world premiere during the 1996 RAF British Tour. It is scored for large symphonic wind band, with the addition of voices.The work is a sequel to the highly successful The Sword and the Crown which was premiered in 1991 by the mass bands of the RAF (and also was an RAF commission). That work was based on music written for the Royal Shakespeare Company productions of The Plantagenets and Henry IV, parts 1 and 2 (for productions between 1988 and 1991).The Kings go Forth is similarly based on musical material for those productions. It uses different thematic elements and incorporates them into a three-movement suite entitled: The Church; The People; The State.This reflects the fact that in Henry IV Parts 1 and 2, Shakespeare introduces The People as an important element in the dramatic structure. The Church and The State are, of course, both leitmotivs throughout the entire plays. An Agnus Dei is heard at the outset from a solo voice. The ensuing Dies Irae is a fast and, at times, quite violent dance. The two sections which form the basis of the second movement, The People, concentrate on popular elements and reflect to some extent the tavern scenes in the plays. The two ideas presented are a harvest hymn reflecting the country scenes set in Gloucestershire, and a jazzy, 'up-tempo' dance based on the medieval song, Sumer is icumen in. The third movement, The State, deals with the Kings theme in the title of the piece. The juxtaposition of battle music with funeral music for Henry IV and Henry VI leads to a reworking of the leitmotif from the beginning of the work. £62.95Bahumba - Peter Sciaino
"Bahumba" is a nonsense word but a no-nonsense selection for concert band. The word stems from a sound composer Peter Sciaino heard coming from an idling car. The engine, clearly having issues, had an "uneven" gate or pulse. He mindlessly heard the word "Bahumba" within the sounds emerging from the struggling motor. Just like an engine, an ensemble can attain a smooth groove even if "uneven" in terms of pulse. While the percussionists are often asked to provide this groove under the melodic lines, they ultimately break out with a feature that essentially places a percussion ensemble within the context of a concert band piece. £45.95Giant's Lair - Kevin Clary
An edgy and exciting piece for very young band to perform on one of their first concerts. The melodic material in the outer sections portrays an agitated giant stomping around violently, and the middle section simulates an unfortunate visitor to his cave tip-toeing around in an attempt to avoid being spotted. The form of the piece is intuitive and memorable while only using five notes. Young students will learn it quickly, and it can be prepared for a concert in a reasonably short amount of time.

£75.52Temperamental (Concert Band) Fendall Hill
This work by Fendall Hill was the set test for the 2021 National Brass Band Championships of New Zealand, B Grade. Here it has been adapted for Concert Band. The composer writes: 'J.S. Bach (1685-1750) is deemed by many to be the 'Ulimate Composer'. He added an incredible proportion to the DNA of western music, and his influence is heard in the music of today. Like many artists, he was not overly recognised as a composer during his lifetime, and it took an 1829 performance of the St Matthew Passion by Mendelssohn to ignite a recognition of his place in the music world, a place he has maintained ever since. This piece starts with a similar spark of rediscovery of the music of Bach. It contains arrangements of various works, interspersed with composition based on Bach's chord structures, sections in the style of Bach, and original sections inspired by the moods created along the way. The first section explores the Toccata, and great organ works. This leads into an exploration of his choral works, and a finale based on the Preludes. The word 'Tempered' has different meanings, and all seem to apply to the music of Bach, and these appeal to the musical, engineering and spiritual aspects of my personal life. His music reaches to the humanity and divinity, it has strength, structure and order that creates frameworks in which incredible complexity reigns; and the complexity leads to a wildness, a kind of craziness that represents a range of human moods, and can change without warning. The same piece of music affects people in very different ways. I don't know if it's Bach's music, or us, but it can seem out of control and under control at the same time - the combination is highly temperamental. Something of a classic in its brass band and piano versions! We are delighted, at last, to make this work available ith wind band accompaniment by the composer. Written in 1978, the work is constructed in three movements and is virtually a concerto for euphonium and band. The first movement begins with an unaccompanied motto theme, which uses all twelve notes of the scale but with a tonal feel. The slow second movement is based on an original song melody by the composer - 'The Eyes of God' - and affords lyrical and richly expressive playing that is typically euphonium. Movement three follows without a break - a capricious movement which ends triumphantly. Now available in versions for piano, brass band, wind band, and orchestra, Euphonium Music can be seen as a major contribution to the literature for the instrument. This "ring of fire" is actually the sun's outer edges being revealed to the human eye. The rhythmic pattern of this piece teaches students eighth note patterns, and each section has an opportunity to play the melody. The use of a variety of colors and sforzandos makes this an aggressive composition that younger students will enjoy playing.

Named for the beautiful Catawba River, this piece begins with a brilliant fanfare, revealing the principle motive upon which the entire composition is based. Shifting tonalities and colorful scoring are the hallmark of the opening section. This is followed by an expressive con moto section that provides the piece with dramatic contrast. Once the opening theme returns, Catawba Crossing develops into a rousing march in 6/8 time, followed by a return to the opening material, bringing the piece to an exciting conclusion. An impressive choice for contest or festival performance.
