Waves of the Revolution
O'Loughlin's tribute to New Hampshire's contribution to the Revolutionary War features glorious brass fanfares, blossoming woodwinds and exciting scoring for the percussion section. An aggressive theme in a minor key is the basis for this contest style piece, which is symphonic in nature. The combination of the themes towards the end of the piece brings it to an exciting conclusion.

Molly on the Shore - Percy Grainger
No. 23 of Grainger's British Folk Music settings, Molly on the Shore is a rollicking treatment of a popular Irish Reel. It scampers and bounces its way through a succession of sonorous climaxes, accumulating an amazing collection of memorable counter themes as it goes along, before subsiding in a delicately scored coda that ends with a characteristic Grainger bang. An acclaimed classic, we are proud to offer this engraved and corrected edition of Molly on the Shore with a complete full score. The Coldstream Guards - Elliot Del Borgo
Beginning with the steady beat of two snare drums, The Coldstream Guards is a fine example of an English style march by a master of band scoring. Tuneful and colorful, it pays tribute to the pageantry and dignity of the Queen of England's own guard. It will be an excellent alternative to standard marches as a contest warm-up. Duration: 2' 40"

Ringing Isle, The - Jonathan Dove arr. Phillip Littlemore
Handel called Britain 'the ringing isle' because when he moved to London, he heard bells ringing everywhere: great bells in church towers, and handbells in some of the first private houses he visited. The sound of people 'ringing the changes' is a peculiarly British sound of celebration, and it seems a good starting point for a piece celebrating British musical life. Within The Ringing Isle, Dove incorporates some traditional change-ringing patterns, from 'Grandsire Doubles', 'Oxford Treble Bob Minor' and his own version of 'Plain Bob Major'. Handel's phrase also conjures up an image of a magical island, and so this is how Dove envisaged how it must have been to approach Britain from an ocean voyage. A Christmas Overture - Nigel Hess
This vivacious and colourful Christmas Overture, originally commissioned as an orchestral work by John Rutter for his 2007 Christmas Festival, proved an instant success with audience and orchestra alike. Traditional carols, skilfully juxtaposed and interwoven, provide the thematic material. They are, in order of appearance, Ding Dong! Merrily On High; Deck The Halls, Il Est N Le Divin Enfant, Infant Holy, Infant Lowly, Personent Hodie, We Wish You A Merry Christmas and Angels, From The Realms Of Glory, which bring the overture to a majestic close. Fragments of other carols appear along the way to enrich the tecture of what is surely one of the most attractive pieces written for festive season.

East Coast Pictures - Nigel Hess
East Coast Pictures was commissioned by the British Youth Wind Orchestra with funds from the National Westminster Bank plc. These three short 'pictures' were inspired by several visits to a small part of the American East Coast, an area that provides great extremes in the geography and the people. Movement 1: Shelter Island is a small island situated near the end of Long Island, a few hours drive east of New York. In the summer it becomes a crowded tourist trap; but in the winter it is gloriously deserted and bravely faces the onslaught of the turbulent Atlantic, shrouded in sea mists and driving rain. This 'picture' is a fond memory of a winter weekend on Shelter Island. Movement 2: In upstate New York lie the Catskills Mountains--an extraordinary combination of tranquillity and power, peace and majesty. Once seen, they call you back again and again. Movement 3: New York - or to be more precise, Manhattan. For anyone who is familiar with this bizarre and wonderful city, here is a 'picture' that needs no explanation. For those not yet hooked this is a foretaste of things to come!
