Rondo in E flat (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bull, John - Noble, Paul

This arrangement for Concert Band is based on the organ adaptation (Rondo in D) of the string orchestration (Rondo in G). Regardless of the key, it is a delightful piece representing music of the late Renaissance that recalls the English folk dances of an earlier century. An excellent teaching piece for 6/8 meter and rondo form, this presentation in E-flat falls comfortably under the fingers of band instrumentalists. The music is attributed to John Bull, but may have been written much later by noted organist, Richard Ellsasser.

Commissioned by Furman University for the inauguration of its 12th president, Jay Bocook's Gloriana is based on The Faerie Queene, an incomplete English epic poem written by Edmund Spenser and dedicated to Queen Elizabeth I. In the poem, Queen Elizabeth is represented as the faerie queene herself, Gloriana. This stately work for winds and percussion has a regal quality enhanced by soaring melodies and punctuated with fanfare-like brass figures. The optional organ part provides an added dimension to the overall uplifting effect.Duration: 3:20

Nexus (Trumpet Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Curnow, James

The word nexus is defined as a tie or link between people and events. Nexus, for solo trumpet and band, includes several links between composer James Curnow and educator Alfred Watkins, to whom the work is dedicated. A well-known theme (particularly to Mr. Watkins' students) is drawn upon as the piece utilises two primary musical settings - an energetic and agile scherzo that appears in the beginning and again at the end, contrasted with an expressive ballad theme.Duration: 6.00

Luceafarul (The Evening Star) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Doss, Thomas

Luceafarul (The Evening Star) is based on an old Romanian legend about a princess who falls in love with the evening star. Eventually the star returns her love, and one night he climbs down in human form to her. However, their love fails because of his realisation that such a connection between heaven and earth is impossible. Thomas Doss has translated this romantic, touching love drama into an equally dramatic and emotional musical work. Deeply moving!

Letter from Sado (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Blackshaw, Jodie

Letter from Sado is an exciting piece for young band designed to draw out the musicality in young players. With a focus on interpretation of an ancient haiku poem with natural imagery, performers are invited to become decision makers about specific sections in the music. Their decisions include ideas regarding tempo, dynamics and articulation in order to represent a wild stormy sea and a still starry night.
