Fuse (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Smith, Rob
A "fuse" may be defined as "to blend two or more substances by melting." In the spirit of this definition, this energetic work from Rob Smith consists of three main elements that are gradually mixed together until becoming virtually inseparable. "Fuse" may also be defined as "a cord of readily combustible material that is lighted at one end with a flame to detonate an explosive at the other end" - an image that certainly fits the work's fast, driving and highly intense nature. God So Loved the World (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Stainer, John - Horner, Kevin
The Crucifixion, an oratorio composed by John Stainer in 1887 was designed in such a way that most church choirs would find it accessible. Also, it helpfully includes five hymns so that the congregation can contribute also. Whilst the text for this work was written by W J Sparrow Simpson, who worked with Stainer in an earlier work entitled 'Mary Magdalene', that used in this setting of 'God, so loved the world' is literal from John 3 verse 16 in the scriptures. This movement of 'The Crucifixion' is the most popular and widely used.

Rondo in E flat (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bull, John - Noble, Paul
This arrangement for Concert Band is based on the organ adaptation (Rondo in D) of the string orchestration (Rondo in G). Regardless of the key, it is a delightful piece representing music of the late Renaissance that recalls the English folk dances of an earlier century. An excellent teaching piece for 6/8 meter and rondo form, this presentation in E-flat falls comfortably under the fingers of band instrumentalists. The music is attributed to John Bull, but may have been written much later by noted organist, Richard Ellsasser.
