This piece was commissioned by Matsudo Citizen Wind Orchestra for their 30th anniversary concert and premiered by the band conducted by Kenichiro Hasunuma in July 2009. This piece is typical of Satoshi Yagisawa in that it depicts a magnificent spectacle. This one is set in ancient Egypt and is based on the story depicted in the famous film "The Ten Commandments" (1956, directed by Cecil B. DeMille). One day Moses, who was raised by the rich royal family, found out that he was originally Hebrew. The Hebrews had been forced to live as slaves. Ramses, the prince directly descended from the Pharaoh, envied Moses' strength and popularity. After internal argument Moses decides to deliver the Hebrew from the Pharaoh's tyranny and escape from Egypt with them.The music starts with brilliant royal fanfare and depicts magnificent architecture, the Hebrew people forced into hard labour, and the slaves escaping from the Pharaoh's tyranny. At the climax they are at crisis point, trapped by the sea. Moses waves his staff and the miracle happens; the sea parts and Hebrew people successfully escape. Following on from Perseus - A Hero's Quest in the Heavens, this work Moses and Ramses is another piece written in the dramatic style favoured by Satoshi Yagisawa.Duration: 9:30

The twofold title of this concert work is directly connected with the band who commissioned it. The 'Harmonie Municipale Grevenmacher' - from the town of the same name, by the river Moselle in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg - was founded in the year 1834. The name Machera is derived from the word machara, which in turn originated from maceries (old wall). Later, Machera evolved into Machern, Grafenmachern, and finally Grevenmacher. In 2009, this music society - the third oldest still in existence in the country - celebrated its 175th anniversary. And after all these years the society still flourishes! The dynamic committee, led by Georges May, fully supports and inspires the musical leader of the band, Claude Weiland, as well as his 60-strong ensemble. This well-functioning team took the initiative to ask Jan Van der Roost to write an anniversary composition, inspired, on the one hand, by the rural character of Grevenmacher and its surroundings (where the famous Moselle wine growing dominates the countryside), and on the other hand, by the dynamics, creativity and joie de vivre the band exudes. All of this resulted in a twofold work with alternating peace and excitement, virtuous and melodic features, orchestral splendour and soberly orchestrated passages. The premire, on 10 January 2010, was conducted by the composer himself at a successful gala concert which brought a fine year full of musical festivities to a close. The 'Harmonie Municipale Grevenmacher' faces the future with confidence, and will now prepare for its next milestone: the 200th anniversary!Duration: 11:00

Enjoying his travels in Scotland, Marco Putz decided to compose a piece for wind band, based on Scottish folk songs. While in the airport at Glasgow, shortly before boarding his plane, Putz bought a collection of folk melodies from all over Scotland that had been arranged for flute. At first he harmonised several melodies in his own style, then he began to alter the resulting pieces (especially rhythmically). Eventually Putz added passages here and there and orchestrated the piece for wind band. Putz's resulting composition is an educational work that is both enjoyable and appealing to players of all ages, although it was written with young bands in mind. From the Highlands is part of a project to increase the repertoire available to youth and school bands, both in quantity and quality; an important personal and musical goal for the composer. This is Putz's third contribution of this sort to be added to the De Haske catalogue, following his successful Arrows of Lightning and Four Sketches for Band.Duration: 7:45

Memor Vita! is a musical celebration of life, particularly remembering the life of Zachary Joseph Heringer. Zach was diagnosed with cancer when he was 10 years old. He remained positive throughout the many months of treatments and had strong hopes of being cured. He was a vivacious boy who loved sports, the outdoors, and playing the trumpet in band. He was also an excellent student. He was looking forward to joining his high school band with his older sister, Beth, and his friends. However, the cancer continued to spread and at the age of 14, Zach passed away. Exultation is a short and energetic concert opener that is similar to a palindrome. A fanfare opens the work, juxtaposing 3/4 and 6/8, reminiscent of Latin-American music. The main theme is first heard on the euphonium, horns and saxophones which is very bluesy. The contrasting second theme is short and spikey and played by the bass instruments of the band. A lyric melody emerges as the rest of the orchestra joins in. The second theme reappears which leads back to the 'blues' melody, which leads back to the opening fanfare. Palindromic!Duration: 3:00
