£94.99Conzensus - Jan Van der Roost
This stately concert opener was originally written by Jan Van der Roost for a special event in which six respected wind orchestras (two Belgian and four Dutch) of different composition (two symphonic bands, two fanfare bands and two brass bands) were featured during six concerts. Each evening brought forth a performance by a symphonic band, a fanfare, and brass band, so that the audience could experience all three types of ensembles. This was indeed an original concept. The name, ConZEnSus, comes from a combination of the words, 'Concert Cyclus' (concert series) and 'zes' (Dutch for 'six'). This leads to a new word, which refers to 'consensus'. The general tenor of the cycle isthus immediately indicated. The richness of color of the various ensembles is revealed through an open and friendly atmosphere. During all six concerts (over a span of three years), ConZEnSus functioned as a permanent opening number for each orchestra. Thus the same musical story was portrayed in three different packages.

£104.99Canterbury Chorale - Jan Van der Roost
This quiet piece with its broad tones was originally written for brass band on request of Robert Leveugle, chairman of the composers own band: Brass Band Midden Brabant (Belgium). The direct cause was a visit to the beautiful cathedral of theEnglish city Canterbury, in which so many fine compositions sounded throughout the centuries. Later on, Jan Van der Roost rescored this piece for symphonic wind band, exploring the full richness of colours of this formation. Besides solo phrases forseveral instruments, there are some massive tutti passages making the wind orchestra sound like a majestic organ. By the way: an "ad libitum" organ part adds an extra richness, colour and power to this piece, making it sound even more broad andgrand.

£91.99The Sun Will Rise Again - Philip Sparke
The composer writes:"On March 11th 2011 a massive 9.0- magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of north-eastern Japan.I'm writing these programme notes barely a week later and the death toll caused by the quake and resulting tsunami already exceeds 6000, with thousands of people still unaccounted for. I have many friends associated with many bands throughout Japan and one of these, Yutaka Nishida, suggested I write a piece to raise money to help those affected by the disaster. I was immediately attracted by the idea and have arranged Cantilena (a brass band piece recently commissioned by the Grenland International Brass Festival, Norway) for wind band, giving it a new title tohonour my friends in the Land of the Rising Sun.I will be donating royalties from this piece to the Japanese Red Cross Society Emergency Relief Fund and am delighted to say that my distributors, De Haske, who will generously also donate all net profits from sales of this piece, have pledged a substantial advance payment to the Red Cross so that what little help this project generates can be immediate. It is my sincere wish that this 'Band Aid' project will allow wind bands around the world support the people of Japan, where bands are a way of life for many, in this difficult time".Philip Sparke

£90.00Euphonium Music - Brian Bowen
Something of a classic in its brass band and piano versions! We are delighted, at last, to make this work available ith wind band accompaniment by the composer. Written in 1978, the work is constructed in three movements and is virtually a concerto for euphonium and band. The first movement begins with an unaccompanied motto theme, which uses all twelve notes of the scale but with a tonal feel. The slow second movement is based on an original song melody by the composer - 'The Eyes of God' - and affords lyrical and richly expressive playing that is typically euphonium. Movement three follows without a break - a capricious movement which ends triumphantly. Now available in versions for piano, brass band, wind band, and orchestra, Euphonium Music can be seen as a major contribution to the literature for the instrument. Duration: 15 minutes USA Grade 5 An orchestral version is available on hire.

£44.50Catalina March (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Hodges, Steve
Catalina March, an original composition by Steve Hodges, contains elements of both traditional and contemporary marches. The spirited opening theme features a playful give-and-take between the brass and the upper woodwinds. A contrasting minor trio section is presented by the clarinets, saxophones and horns before returning to a charming woodwind variation of the initial presentation. Following an effective modulation, the piece finishes with a powerful restatement of the opening theme with woodwind countermelodies complementing the strong brass and percussion. This exciting march would be an excellent way to begin a concert!Duration: 2:45

£58.50Delmar Festival Overture (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - O'Reilly, John
Delmar Festival Overture is a powerful concert overture utilizing many of the contemporary compositional techniques that distinguish John O'Reilly's work. From the opening brass fanfare to the exciting conclusion, syncopated rhythms and numerous, interesting shifts of meter abound. Biting polychords establish the predominant harmonic structure for the opening "Allegro," but the majestic theme that follows in the horns and saxes takes on a decidedly British band style. The lyrical middle section begins with a fully scored chorale, which serves as the subject for a lovely melodic development featuring woodwinds and French horn. A brilliant brass fanfare ushers in a return to the opening section, which is now reorganized and further developed to bring this exciting overture to its dramatic conclusion. A great concert opener that will show off the talents of your musicians! Duration: 4.45

Extra Score. This suite - originally a brass band work - was commissioned jointly by the Black Dyke Band and the Brass Band Heritage Trust. The composer later made this version for concert band. There is a momentary reference to Yr Deryn Pur (The White Bird) at the end of the second section. (Grade 4) Performance time: 12:00 Recorded on Polyphonic QPRM152D MOSAIC: Great British Music Vol. 13
