A dramatic brass intro opens with "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear," set here as a woodwind feature. "O Tannenbaum" is then treated in fanfare-like fashion featuring the brass section, followed by a smooth woodwind rendition of "Noel" that features a flowing trumpet solo. The piece ends with a novel version of "Jingle Bells" written in the style of a Viennese grand waltz. Fun for all!

Dramatic Overture is a lively, celebratory piece commissioned to mark the 80th anniversary of the band. It begins with a stark, powerful introduction of the main theme by the trombones and percussion, soon joined by the other brass before the music moves into a dance-like allegro section. Dramatic brass statements, scampering woodwinds and long, soaring melodies dominate this allegro section until the band slows once again, to present a dramatic fanfare based on the basic intervals of the opening theme. The work then ends with a flashy, energetic coda.

£79.99Hope Arises - James Barnes
Hope Arises is one of two new works requested in 2021 of composer James Barnes by Colonel Donald Schofield, to be written for the United States Air Force Band. It is a short piece intended to be used as an opener for AFB's tour concerts. It opens with a dramatic brass fanfare, based on consecutive perfect fourths first introduced by horns and euphoniums, followed by a short oboe solo. An ascending line in mallets and woodwind provide a rather celestial transition, taking the listener to a lively, melodic allegro, which is based on the same opening fourths. This allegro theme is developed until a return to the opening fanfare is powerfully re-announced in brass. The work concludes quite dramatically, and includes a return of the ascending line in woodwinds, mallets, harp and piano.

The arrangements and compositions in these books were written by Adrian Taylor for various beginner or school bands that he has conducted over the years. Children joined these bands on the 2nd parts, usually having only been playing for a year and they then progressed to the 1st parts the following year.The 2nd parts are written without key signatures in treble clef, in B flat major for bass clef trombone and euphonium and in E flat major for bass clef tuba. 1st parts are written with the appropriate key signatures for each piece, reflecting the greater understanding and skills of the players on these parts. Most of the pieces can be played with only a few parts being covered, the addition of the other parts usually enhancing the arrangement rather than simply doubling existing musical lines. The essential parts are the two Trumpet (and Clarinet or Cornet) parts, the two Trombone/Euphonium parts and preferably also the 1st Horn part. A piano part helps to fill out the harmonies where other parts are missing. The brass parts in the wind band versions are identical to those in the brass versions.

Seid (pronounced sayed was a divination ceremony practised by the Vikings which could be used to reveal knowledge of the future. During the ceremony, woman sang incantations and the Seeress (Vlva) passed into a kind of trance. In other arctic cultures similar ceremonies took place during which the Medicine man (Sage), or Shaman, would beat a drum covered with magic runes, and he too would pass into a trance, reaching the deepest part of his own sub-consciousness - a journey beyond time and space... "Seid" was commissioned by The Norwegian Band Federation and European Brass Band Assosiation for the European Brass Band Championship in 1996. The version for Concert Bandwas commissioned by Frode Amundsen and Borge Musikkorps in 2018. Supported by NOPA (Norwegian Society of Composers and Lyricists)

Famed bandmaster Arthur Delamont always programmed a hymn in his concerts and Memento is an homage to that proud tradition. Delmar Festival Overture is a powerful concert overture utilizing many of the contemporary compositional techniques that distinguish John O'Reilly's work. From the opening brass fanfare to the exciting conclusion, syncopated rhythms and numerous, interesting shifts of meter abound. Biting polychords establish the predominant harmonic structure for the opening Allegro, but the majestic theme that follows in the horns and saxes takes on a decidedly British band style. The lyrical middle section begins with a fully scored chorale, which serves as the subject for a lovely melodic development featuring woodwinds and French horn. A brilliant brass fanfare ushers in a return tothe opening section, which is now reorganized and further developed to bring this exciting overture to its dramatic conclusion.
