Many will be familiar with the children's song Jesus Bids Us Shine on which it is based.The piece is very light-hearted in character, and would easily lend itself to the addition of some imaginative choreography that could prove extremely entertaining and amusing on the right occasion!In its original brass band form, the piece was written for The Salvation Army's Melbourne Staff Band when they toured the UK in 2001. It was used to great effect by the band on that trip.

Cryptogram (krip-to-gram): anything written in cipher. Cipher (si'fer): a secret code.Commissioned for the 50th Birthday of Paul Patterson, the composer has taken the letters P, A, U and L and adapted their Morse Code dots and dashes as a basis for the piece. Combinations of rich brass writing, juxtaposed with florid upper wind writing, provides a stimulating piece for an intermediate level band. The finale to the work superimposes both elements for a grand ending.

This traditional military style march represents the dignity and worth of the individual. This is accomplished by featuring all sections at some point: a percussion introduction and interlude, trumpet fanfare, low brass melody, and woodwind lead. The notated dynamics are essential for musical contrast and the tempo can be adjusted according to student skill levels.
