Robert the Bruce and the Spider (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fraser, Bruce

King Robert the Bruce was hunted by King Edward the First of England and, so the story goes, was hiding in a cave. According to legend, he watched a spider attempting to climb a tree whilst weaving a web. It failed many times, but finally reached the top. This action gave Robert the Bruce the encouragement to persist against the English ant at the Battle of Bannockburn the English were defeated by the Scots. The rhythm which opens the piece in percussion spells out Robert the Bruce and this is used with an unusual effect in the middle section from the Percussion section, where the players gradually raise their sticks above their heads whilst beating out the Robert the Bruce rhythm pattern.

Wagner on Stage (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wagner, Richard - Hosay, James L.

Wagner on Stage uses extracts from four best-loved of Wagner's operas: Tannhauser, Gotterdammerung, Lohengrin and Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg. Richard Wagner certainly wrote the most dramatic operas of his time. His works are full of passion, dynamic, but also sentimentality. James L. Hosay's arrangement offers therefore a great insight into the creative world of Wagner.Duration: 6.30

Men in Black (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Murtha, Paul

Will Smith's blockbuster film has a catchy, funky tune that everybody knows. Don't worry about rehearsing this one much - it's easy, repetitive and designed for nothing but fun.

Grandma got Run Over by a Reindeer (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Brooks, Randy - Osterling, Eric

The only thing missing from this is the lyrics (and the hoof prints), but the music will leave your audiences with a grin. A great novelty for a developing band's winter program.

National Emblem (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bagley, Edwin Eugene - Custer, Calvin

This brilliantly scored version of E.E. Bagley's most notable work continues to provide that 'in your face' sound so loved by audiences. The use, somewhat camouflaged, of The Star Spangled Banner certainly contributes to this degree of fame, plus the fact that it is a march strong on brass and percussion, which never fails to inspire performers or those who listen. Technical difficulties are limited, but the sheer joy of the work shines through. Highly recommended! Duration: 3.00
