When Men and Mountains Meet - Scott Watson

Commissioned by the East Stroudsburg Area School District, this work displays the effort and determination it must have taken to establish this community in the Pocono mountains with wall upon wall of rock to be blasted and great masses of earth to be moved. It opens with a broad, somewhat dissonant statement representing the settlers first intimidating encounter with the mountain, followed by a faster, insistent theme as the area is settled and developed. It also contains a first and second ending, accents, and several dynamic changes as well as harmonies that are very basic and easily obtainable for young musicians.
