Portsmouth Point (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Walton, William - Noble, Paul

Portsmouth Point is an overture originally composed in 1925 for orchestra by the English composer William Walton. The work was inspired by the well-known painting depicting Portsmouth Point by Thomas Rowlandson. Portsmouth Point depicts in musical form the rumbustious life of British 18th century sailors. Commentators have noted the influence of Igor Stravinsky's music and of jazz in the rhythms of the score, as well as the rhythm of the Catalan sardana dance. This arrangement brings a challenging addition to the repertoire of the Concert/Wind Band, with its pointillistic rhythm and dissonances, somewhat typical of Walton in this period of his life.

Speak to Me (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wilson, Dana

There is a long tradition in jazz of instruments carrying on a conversation - either intricate with soloistic dialogues (often improvised) or the call and response of larger forces. Speak to Me is above all such a conversation, at first among soloists and then among more and more performers as they gradually join in. This piece begins with a simple tune that increasingly overlaps with and is interrupted by other ideas, generating enormous energy along the way. Duration: 5:00

The Rite of Spring, Excerpts from (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Stravinsky, Igor - Buckley, Robert

The premier performance of The Rite of Spring in 1913 is the stuff of legend. There was disagreement among the people who attended as to whether it was the music or the choreography that caused the near-riot in the audience. Since then The Rite has been performed regularly and is considered to be one of the most influential works of the 20th century, laying the basis for modern jazz, film music and even heavy metal. It's all here: the driving rhythms, haunting Russian folk melodies, brilliant scoring, crunching harmonies and the epic drama! The intention with this arrangement for band was to stay as true as possible to the original and choose the sections that would work well in this context. Sure to become a valued and important addition to the wind band repertoire!Duration: 6:30

A Christmas Night (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Jeanbourquin, Marc

Christmas night evokes a multitude of images within every one of us: memories of sharing delicious meals with our family, of magical encounters, of celebrations, carol singing and music. In this work, Marc Jeanbourquin revisits four great Christmas Eve classics. The first chorale, Adeste Fideles, majestically opens this piece before taking the audience on to the famous Joy to the World. Such an arrangement would not be complete without the equally well-known Jingle Bells in a jazz version, before We wish you a Merry Christmas as a fitting conclusion to the piece. With A Christmas Night, you will be able to express in music the traditional Christmastime wishes to your public.Duration: 4.00
