Salamander Symphony (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jacob

Salamander Symphony is a three-movement work for symphonic wind band in which the city of Kornwestheim, situated in Baden-Wrttemberg, occupies centre stage. It is the name of the well-known shoe factory that was established there in 1899 - and that symbolizes the industrial and social development of the city. In the symphony, we find various references to the mythological meaning of salamanders: they are vigorous creatures that contain the soul of fire. Without salamanders there would not be any fire. In addition, a salamander can change its shape and serve as a kind of vehicle through time. In the Berber culture, the salamander represents change.Duration: 22.30

As With Gladness Men of Old (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Noble & Willcocks

As with Gladness Men of Old is an Epiphany hymn, written by William Chatterton Dix on 6 January 1859 (Epiphany) while he was ill in bed. Though considered by many as a Christmas carol, it is found in the Epiphany section of many hymnals and still used by many churches. The music was adapted by William Henry Monk in 1861 from a tune written by Conrad Kocher in 1838. The hymn is based on the visit of the Biblical magi in the Nativity of Jesus. The hymn used Matthew 2:1-12 as a theme to compare the journey of the Biblical magi to visit the baby Jesus to each Christian's personal pilgrimage and as a reminder that it is not the value of the gifts, it is the value of giving and adoration to Jesus that is what Christians should seek. It is the only well-known Epiphany hymn or carol about the Biblical magi that avoids referring to them as either magi or kings and does not state how many there were. This arrangement represents one in the Series of Band Arrangements compatible with David Willcocks' Carols for Choirs.

O Come, All Ye Faithful (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Noble & Willcocks

O Come, All Ye Faithful (originally written in Latin as Adeste Fideles ) is a Christmas carol that has been attributed to various authors, including St. Bonaventure in the 13th century or King John IV of Portugal in the 17th, though it was more commonly believed that the text was written by Cistercian monks - the German, Portuguese or Spanish provinces of that order having at various times been credited. In modern English hymnals the text is usually credited to John Francis Wade, whose name appears on the earliest printed versions. A manuscript by Wade, dating to 1751, is held by Stonyhurst College in Lancashire. The version published by Wade consisted of four Latin verses. But later in the 18th century, the French Catholic priest Jean-Francois-tienne Borderies wrote an additional three verses in Latin; these are normally printed as the third to fifth of seven verses. O come, all ye faithful ranks as one of the most popular Christmas carols ever written, and the descant by David Willcocks has become famous the world over. This arrangement represents one in the Series of Band Arrangements compatible with David Willcocks' Carols for Choirs.

Steps Ahead (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Gandolfi, Michael

Steps Ahead is a new BandQuest work by Michael Gandolfi that takes young players on a journey! Along the way, there are musical/compositional techniques that are intended to educate the performers about basic compositional techniques that are intended to educate the performers about basic compositional techniques. "Steps Ahead is a delightful piece with something interesting for every instrument in the ensemble. Each of its three sections addresses a kind of compositional technique - transposition, tutti (a 2-part homophonic section) and developing tutti (parts of the band enter to build to a 2-part homophonic tutti). Less experienced players might enjoy the challenges of easy syncopation and musical lines constructed with larger intervals." -Tom Duffy, series editor.

Acentos Oscuras (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob

A powerful, brooding piece in minimalist style, Acentos Oscuras (Dark Accents) is a new departure for Rob Wiffin. He wanted to try and write a reasonably extended piece of minimalism but make the necessary rhythmic shifts by means of accents across the bar rather than continually changing the metre. Hence the ear picks up a lot of patterns of 5 that are actually placed across an even beat of 2. Without necessarily trying for a dark atmosphere the piece naturally evolved in that mood. There are episodes that are lighter and more playful but the primal power and obscure quality pervade much of the music.Duration: 8

Down by the Riverside (Concert Band with opt. Choir - Score and Parts) - Rutter, John - Noble, Paul

Down by the riverside is a spiritual that was sung by slaves in the South as a work song. It dates back to before the American Civil War. John Rutter's lively arrangement of this barnstorming American folk-song builds up from a quiet opening to a triumphant conclusion. This arrangement is a faithful adaptation of the original orchestration for chorus and orchestra, but it is arranged so that it may be performed by band alone. The style is an authentic toe-tapping early jazz creation that relates to the 'jitterbug' era, and the band arrangement is complete with an optional jazz clarinet solo as well as a rousing chorus by the sax section. The piano part is cued if needed. This is a perfect opportunity to get the entire band 'swinging', and could even entice a 'One mo' time!' finale.

Nurture (Windependence Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fairlie, Edward

There are some people for whom the act of nurturing is innate. The work they do is often unheralded, acknowledgement of their effort the last thing on their mind. But nurturers carry pain, too. Their own burdens, anxieties and hardships often take a back seat to that nurturing impulse. This piece is a meditation on that idea; that some people, not without their own deep personal obstacles, can't help but live out the powerful instinct to hold those around them in a warm embrace of care. ~ Edward Fairlie Duration: 4:50

Standing Stones (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Stalter, Todd

Ancient legend says that as the Oneida were being chased on foot through a forest by an enemy tribe, they came to a clearing and suddenly disappeared from sight, confounding their enemies by shape-shifting into the stones that stood in the clearing. This piece is meant to commemorate that event. Duration: 4:30

Fuse (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Smith, Rob

A "fuse" may be defined as "to blend two or more substances by melting." In the spirit of this definition, this energetic work from Rob Smith consists of three main elements that are gradually mixed together until becoming virtually inseparable. "Fuse" may also be defined as "a cord of readily combustible material that is lighted at one end with a flame to detonate an explosive at the other end" - an image that certainly fits the work's fast, driving and highly intense nature.
