One can easily imagine in the days of Castes and Kings, how this composition may spark the feeling of what it may have been like for Knights of the Kingdoms to not only protect the Lords of the Castle, but also be chivalrous to the Ladies of the Court. Dancing at the feasts and festivals, escorting the royalty to various events. Knights had much more to do than fight. They were allowed to have fun. Sometimes. Like all of our Grade compositions, its main purpose besides giving good and interesting music for young musicians to play, is that it is an opportunity for the band director to teach some aspect of music. This is a great composition for introducing eighth notes and following dynamics. No clarinet crosses the break, and the 1st trumpet's highest note is A (in the staff). Everyone plays rhythmically together. Only the drum part may vary. All chords of the diatonic scale are used to make the harmony more interesting with no accidentals.

This is an exciting work in overture style. The tempo is 120 beats a minute which lays comfortably with the rhythms of this composition. It is exciting and energetic with a flowing melody. Only the 1st and 2nd clarinets cross the break. 1st trumpet's highest note is F.

The popular Swedish children's series Pippi Lngstrump (Pippi Longstocking) is about an exceedingly strong and strong-willed little girl with red braids - who is the brainchild of Astrid Lindgren. This series has been broadcasted in many countries. I arranged its cheerful theme tune in samba style. Even with the new rhythm, the original song is still very recognizable. In the exuberant samba style, the percussion plays an important role. Within the Lngstrump Samba, this is especially clear in the ad libitum percussion solo halfway through the arrangement. The solo can go on as long as desired, and offers plenty of freedom because of the free choice of the instruments used.

When composing this work the brief from the commissioning band was for the composer to base the work on a chorale-like subject matter and this he has done with aplomb. In the very first bars a chorale melody is presented and gradually the samethematic material is more extensively orchestrated with the melodic themes becoming more varied. With afew surprising harmonic turns the piece comes to a majestic end. This is a well-structured work of extreme elegance.

Movement 3 from SuspendedMasked by Alex Shapiro is composed in the exact shape of a Classical Minuet and Trio waltz, though the music--a whimsical if somewhat demented masked ball (or, balls, in this case)--bears little connection to that of Mozart or Haydn. Historically, third movement Minuets gave way to the joke-like Scherzo, and the Trio section tips its hat to some welcome levity. This is one of four movements in Suspended, a piece is composed in the tradition of an 18th century Classical symphony: four contrasting movements which serve specific functions and reveal a story. The work begins in absolute rage and chaos, then alternates between moments of grief and bleakness. Grim reality shifts to a macabre, circus-like insanity, and by the end, flickers of genuine hope contrast a pervasive sense of dread, and finally arrive at more optimistic possibilities.To perform the piece, you'll need an audio system capable of playing the pre-recorded audio tracks from a laptop computer via a small digital audio interface connected to an audio mixer. This is an arrangement of carols associated with Christmas night. The main song in this arrangement is O Holy Night but it also includes the opening phrase of Franz Gruber's Silent Night as an accompanying motif. The music starts with some lux argentum and then two horns play It came upon the midnight clear as a prelude to the main theme. The first iteration of this beautiful Christmas song should ideally be played on the cor anglais.
