Tango for Joe - Philip Sparke
Tango for Joe explores the lyrical properties of the trombone. A long introduction builds to the first entry of the soloist, who plays the main tango melody over a rhythmic accompaniment. In this work, the band and solo trombone parts alternate. A cadenza-like passage leads to a faster 'tango nuevo', which makes up the majority of the work. After a climax and extended cadenza by the trombone, the piece ends with a flourish for concert band and soloist.

Jet Stream - Andreas Ziegelbäck
"Jet Stream" is a composition for a small wind orchestra. The term "Jet Stream" refers to a high-speed wind that occurs in the lowermost layer of Earth's atmosphere. Different temperature regions on Earth's surface give rise to these strong winds, particularly in the border areas where warm and cold air masses separate. The horizontally flowing winds around the globe can reach speeds of up to 540 kilometers per hour, approximately fifteen kilometers above our heads. These rapid wind movements play a crucial role in shaping our planet's weather and climate. To symbolize the wind, a device known as a "Howling Tube" is employed in the percussion section. The composition "Jet Stream" aims to capture the intensity and energy of these high-altitude winds in a musically and technically accessible manner. Simultaneously, it serves as a reminder, through its dramatic musical language, to treat our environment with greater care. Due to its modest instrumentation, the piece is particularly suitable for wind ensembles, including school wind bands.

When Nature strikes back - Otto M. Schwarz
Ice ages, warm periods, impacts by asteroids - the climate on our planet has always been in a state flux. The difference to the past is that since the industrial revolution, the changes are now also increasingly caused by human activity. The release of greenhouse gases in particular promotes the warming of the atmosphere and the oceans. Some experts even predict an increase of up to 4.8 degrees by the end of the 21st century. The result of such a development, apart from environmental catastrophes that are difficult to predict, would be a gigantic migration of populations. CO2 emissions must be reduced: it is five minutes to twelve. The harbingers of disaster have already reached us.
