Cedar Valley March - Steve Hodges

This spirited march begins with a dynamic "echo" introduction that leads to the memorable main theme. All sections share the spotlight before transitioning into the contrasting B section with a minor, more lyrical theme. After an understated presentation, this section builds to a big cymbal crash that leads to a repeat of the A section. The coda features a variation of the echo introduction before ending in a dynamic fashion. The vitality of this new work makes an ideal concert opener that both the band and audience will enjoy.

Celebration for Winds and Percussion - Donald Coakley

Celtic Holy Night

The holy night of Christmas is celebrated in many cultures throughout the world. Robert W. Smith gives us a new arrangement of the classic carol "O Holy Night" in a Celtic style. Following a beautiful introductory statement, the Irish musical roots come to the fore through percussion and flutes as they create an Irish jig. The clarinets present the melody in the beautiful chalumeau register juxtaposed against the jig. Celtic Voyage - Melanie Donahue

Inspired by the many hardships of the Irish immigrants, this piece brings hope of a new world, a new lease on life and a second chance. The piece begins with the sound of the ocean in the background (played by the ocean drum) while a solo flute plays the main theme. As the piece develops the theme represents several scenes: first, the knowledge that life needs to change due to the famine and hardships of the time; second, the immigrants begin their move to America; third, the arrival in America and seeing the statue of Liberty, which is the climactic moment of the piece; and finally, ending with the same idea in the beginning of the piece but now as memory and longing for Ireland.
