£228.70Prelude Festivo - John Brakstad
Prelude Festivo is intended to be performed in concerts and in competitions as well. The work includes solo passages for most instrument groups. Duration 7 minutes. Form: Fast slow fast. The piece is built around two themes. Theme 1 (Allegro con spirito) is the first one presented as a clarinet solo after a fanfare-like opening. Theme 2 is hinted at in the opening bars, but presented fully in the slow (Andante) section (bar 141). This theme is developed and also appears as melodic and rhytmic fragments throughout the composition. In the concluding section (bar 196) both themes are played in conjunction before the piece concludes with the fanfare theme from theopening bars. The solos for cornet and euphonium may be played by saxophone soli cued in at bars 114 and 128. Parts that are marked piu mosso ed leggiero should be played in a cheerful light staccato style in contrast to Andante cantabile.

This work was commissioned by the Osaka Kyoiku University Wind Orchestra. The world premiere took place with trumpet soloist, Osamu Kumashiro and was conducted by the composer, who was inspired by the famous Ponte Vecchio (the old bridge) during a visit to Florence. The solo part can also be performed on euphonium or alto saxophone.

Pulse is a solo work for baritone or euphonium and concert band. As the title suggests, this piece is very rhythmic in nature. Pulse represents life and vitality, which also characterises the work. The tempo remains virtually constant throughout the piece. Even during the cadenza, played by the baritone, the pulse of the timpani continues to beat steadily.This work is dedicated to the young soloist Felix Geroldinger of upper Austria.

This arrangement was made for The Suoni Wind Orchestra of Skien, Norway, and performed for the first time at their Promenade Concert "At Sea" at the Ibsen Culture Center, March 8th 2014, being the final number of the concert. Participating this concert was also the Choir Canto Libre and the two vocal soloists were Eli Kristin Hansveen and Andreas Hoff. Since that time this arrangement has been used also at other concerts involving choir and soloists. It is important that tempo is not too slow and one has to be thorough with details in the percussion parts. Febesa - Filip Ceunen
The title of this work, Febesa, refers to the four notes it is based on: F, E, Bflat (BES in Dutch) and A. At the beginning of the work, the sound of these notes creates a mysterious, extraordinary atmosphere. The work slowly builds from the low brass as the thematic torch is handed to the woodwind section and this leads into a grand tutti. In a tonal and refreshing allegro, the febesa-theme now has a more harmonic role. After this passage, the symmetric form of the work brings us back to the mysterious atmosphere of the introduction, with solos for euphonium, oboe and flute.
