Using the basic melodic shape of Silent Night, Sean O'Loughlin has written a lively piece that goes in a quite different, more up-to-date direction than the familiar, refl ective Carol. The noise makers of the percussion section are given a lively role to play, and the introduction, by the low brass, of God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen, in the middle of the piece, creates a somewhat ironic twist in this amusing re-imagining of a classic carol.

A city is founded, it has a heart that beats. But visible achievements such as buildings and infrastructure merely bear witness to what its true heart is made of, the people who have lived, and still live, in the city. The pulse of the city, brought to life by its heartbeat, changes over time. Who hasn't seen those time-lapse images showing twinkling lines of car lights as people make their way to work, while others stand at traffic lights, only moving as if at the push of a button? These are like life flowing in the veins, driven by a strong heart. Leonardo da Vinci had already imagined the rivers as the blood vessels of the Earth. In any city, though, it's not the rivers but the movement and activities of the people who live there. The heart doesn't always beat steadily, however, but its rhythm can be influenced by joy, fear, and many other things. Every city has its own pulse. This is also true of the university city of Marburg, where people from over 100 nations now live together in a cosmopolitan and tolerant community. Conclusions is inspired by three of the worlds greatest astronomers; their lifes, work and pioneering conclusions. 1: Copernicus. Nicolaus Copernicus lived in the 15th century. He introduced the idea that the planets rotate around the Sun rather than the Earth. This was a new and controversial world view which was not accepted in his lifetime. 2: Galileo. Galileo Galilei lived about a hundred years later and is sometimes called "the father of modern science". He is credited with the discovery of Jupiter's four largest moons. His discoveries supported Copernicus' model of the Solar System, and also showed that objects rotate around other planets than the Earth. Galilei was charged with heresy, and had to recant his claim that the Earth revolved around the Sun. "And yet it does move", he is supposed to have said. 3: Newton. Isaac Newton is known for his theory about the law of gravity and how it affects motion. This theory enabled him to accurately calculate the paths of the planets in the Solar System, and was a third conclusion in the astronomical tradition. In the same way that the three astronomers' independent conclusions build on ideas that are common to all three, Conclusions is built up of three independent movements which all include references to each other (melodic, harmonic, inversions etc.) Duration: 11.00

The suite describes 3 famous landmarks in the Sevenoaks and Tonbridge area: Knole Park, situated to the south-east of Sevenoaks. The Chapel - Tonbridge School: This movement centres around a hymn-like chorale, depicting the years of worship that have taken place within the chapel, and The Vine Bandstand suggesting the type of music often played in bandstands. It is in march form, but is not actually a march throughout, veering off into other styles before ending emphatically.Duration: 10.30

A quiet, gentle piece dedicated to the Isle of Man Wind Orchestra. In February 2014 Rob Wiffin went to the Isle of Man to conduct a workshop with the Isle of Man Wind Orchestra. The year is particularly significant - Island of Culture 2014 is the largest cultural celebration in the history of the Isle of Man. This simple lullaby does not contain any traditional Manx material but was written specifically for the wind orchestra.
