£105.00Battles - Simon Dobson
Battles was written for the restoration of the epic 1927 silent film The Battles of Coronel and Falkland Islands, and was commissioned by the British Film Institute (BFI) in 2013. The work presents eight contrasting scenes as a continuous sequence: War, Introduction of Admiral von Spee, German Banquet, Building Steam/Preparing, Islanders, Call to Arms, Great Battle at Sea and Victory. The original score was written for a small chamber orchestra, symphonic brass and a substantial batterie of tuned and untuned percussion. Battles has been edited for symphonic wind orchestra with percussion and harp.Composer Simon Dobson says of hiscolourful score, "I wanted to keep things simple and clear, so there is a British theme, a fanfare march idea, often heard on trumpet, and a German naval theme, which is a more angular motif."

£139.99Le Cortge du Roi Renaud - Franco Cesarini
Le cortge du roi Renaud is a suite in five parts. It is based on tales that originated in southern European folk songs, dating back as far as the 16th century. A large portion of these songs are of the genre "Complaintes" songs in which the text gives a detailed description of events having a generally criminal or macabre character. The most familiar song to feature the tales of Roi Renaud is "Fualdes", consisting of 48 verses.The first part of the suite is based on the song "La Porcheronne" (The Swineherd). It telis the story of a young woman forced by her mother-in-law to tend pigs while her husband is away fighting in the war. She is freed only when her husband returns sevenyears later.The next part tells the story of "La mrquise Empoisonne" (The Poisoned Marquise). A marquise is coerced by her king to become his mistress. The jealous queen poisons her by means of a bouquet of deadly scented fiowers.Despite having the character of a merry dance, the third part, "La maumarie vengee" (The Avenged Wedding), expresses the touching story of Queen Clotilde, persecuted for her refusal to live according to the Aryan beliefs."La belle engloutie" (The Swallowed Beauty) relates the tale of the young wife of King Renaud. She cannot imagine a life without her husband, who was mortally wounded in the war, and begs the earth to open and swallow her up so thst she may rejoin her love.The gruesome content of the final part,"Le tueur de femmes" (The Wife Killer), bears a strong resembiance to the tale of Bluebeard. The story is about a young wife in danger of being drowned in a pond by her husband, which is what happened to her 13 predecessors. Thanks to her cunning, she manages to turn the tables and contrive her husband's demise.

A suite in 3 parts based on the story of a young boy who was abducted by a Shawnee Indian hunting party in 1771. The first movement, "The New Frontier" is a bold and majestic section containing the patented Swearingen melodic themes which have made his music so popular. "Bring Back My Child" is a solemn section which includes some sorrowful chanting(optional) by members of the band and some very expressive solo spots for the 1st Clarinet and Flute. The third movement, "Great Chief" has a bright and rhythmic character bringing the suite to a dramatic and exciting climax.

This famous Allegro movement from a Vivaldi concerto for two trumpets is presented here in an arrangement loaded with flexibility as to choice of soloists and even the accompanying ensemble. Commissioned by Japan's Central Air Self Defense Force BandWhen I received this commission, I thought of a regular piece for wind band, but as my preparations continued I heard so much about the band's outstanding trumpeter Kenichi Kurisu that I ended up writing a concerto for him. The Self Defense Force audience includes those without much chance to otherwise hear live music. With that in mind I realized I also had the challenge of creating a melody that was compelling.Using the classical sonata as a model I made this song with simple movements and included a signature chorus in the middle section. Although this piece is performed with band, a version for piano accompaniment was created by pianist Orimo Manabu for the 20th Anniversary of "The Trumpet Concert."This edition of Trumpet Concerto was offered for an American Premier at the 2013 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, Robert Sullivan soloist with the Kagoshima Joho High School Wind Orchestra.(Satoshi Yagisawa)
